Full Stack JS node.js

About the Development Team

We’ve developed a set of chat products including 1 to 1 live agent, group chat and chatbots and are looking to develop these products and expand this core technology into other services. The technology is proven, reliable and flexible and requires little technical support.

Our technology team comprises of a Senior developer based in Portugal, a front-end developer, and the CTO, both based in Leicester, England. We’d like to add a full-stack developer to this team, followed by more hires in 2020.

Everyone brings themselves to the team, we work collaboratively, and everyone has a voice and input into the development of our products. Pragmatic and commercially sensitive developers who are keen to improve the user experience and develop robust technology solutions are what we’re looking for.

The dev team and client services work closely to ensure we deliver excellent customer solutions and continue to develop the functionality of our products based on client requirements or market opportunities we wish to explore.

About the product

Our cloud-based platform provides a real-time, group or one-to-one moderated text-based chat, and a non-AI powered chatbot. These solutions are either hosted by us or embedded into the customer’s website using our plugin code. We provide the ability to use webinar-like functionality during the chat, sharing images, video (live and pre-recorded) and polls. Our customers use our platform to engage with candidates and employees at various stages of their recruitment process and early days employment – offering people the ability to see what a company is like before joining; providing a helpdesk to answers questions about their application, etc.

We then offer various APIs to our customers, to schedule and manage planned events; embed chat onto their own website; extract data gathered on the platform.

The platform is built with the following:

  • Node.js

  • Key modules: Express.js, Embeddedjs/EJS, ws, Passport

  • LevelDB

  • PhantomJS for PDF generation, dynamic image rasterization

  • Client-side JavaScript, CSS 3, HTML5

  • jQuery

We also use the following as part of our wider hosting/platform environment:

  • VMware vSphere servers

  • HAproxy load balancing

  • NGINX reverse proxy / caching; static asset serving; CDN

  • Kurento for WebRTC to HLS

  • FFmpeg for RTMP to HLS conversion

Day to day you’ll be…

  • Working with the Technical Director, other developers and designers to build out the Meet & Engage product set.

  • Having varied development responsibilities, spanning real-time comms (text, voice and video); web application development; working with NoSQL databases; RESTful APIs; MI and reporting

  • Suggesting improvements and efficiencies

  • Feeding into and influencing the product roadmap

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting existing code

  • Creating and maintaining unit tests

  • Supporting the business with customer support, issues and bugs when escalated

And you’ll be able to demonstrate…

  • In-depth Node.js and JavaScript / ECMAScript 7+ knowledge across browsers

  • Experience developing responsive, cross-browser websites and web applications using HTML5 and CSS 3

  • Ability to rigorously test across modern browsers and devices

  • Knowledge of JavaScript Libraries, including jQuery

  • A proven industry track record or portfolio of work.

  • Experience in design and implementation of low-latency, scalable applications

  • Knowledge and familiarity with:

a) Mocha

b) Express

c) Git

d) NoSQL databases (e.g Mongo)

  • Proficiency in technical communication (written and verbal)

  • Happiness to work collaboratively with the entire business

And if you have knowledge of…

  • EJS

  • Jenkins

  • Linux sysadmin / deployment

  • WebRTC

…that would be marvellous.

  • Competitive salary

Apply now and work remotely at Meet & Engage

We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack JavaScript Developer to work on a client project. This role is only available to developers based in the US. This is a remote, part-time position (approximately 4 hours/day).

The client is a consulting agency that helps enterprise organizations to better understand their problems and identify opportunities where Open Source technologies can be utilized to solve these problems.

What makes this agency stand apart is that all engineers work within a proprietary development framework which improves the accuracy of estimations and the quality of the code. This process has checks and balances which allow the developers to make the most of their time.

On this particular project, you will be developing a Node.js web app for a healthcare organization. As a Full-Stack JavaScript Developer, you will be elaborating on requirements based on the needs of the end client. The stack for this project includes Meteor.js and Go/Golang but if you aren't yet proficient, you will have the opportunity to learn these skills on the job.

A core part of excelling in this project will involve following the client's development process. This includes:

  • Suggesting alternative solutions to tasks in order to achieve estimates
  • Keeping track of time by ticket number using Toggl time tracking tool
  • Being aware of estimates on tickets and doing everything you can do to hit estimates, including offering implementation compromises up to your project manager and the client
  • Keeping track of JIRA tickets and ensuring your ticket statuses are up to date.

As a candidate, you will be humble, honest, hungry and smart - your preferred working style will be organized, systematic, and logical. You will also have the ability to work in a team and grow from constructive feedback.

You will be reporting to the agency Principal who is also a senior software engineer. You'll also work with other developers who have worked on projects for the same client for technical discussions. Further, you'll work directly with the client to understand their needs and develop the best solution for the technical challenges. You will have support from a variety of sources for business and technical context. There is an existing daily meeting at 11:00am America/Los Angeles (-07:00) PDT.

  • 3-5 years of experience with advanced JavaScript development
  • Node.js
  • At least one popular front-end framework (React, Angular, or otherwise)
  • Experience with Git
  • Familiarity/experience with Docker and container technologies
  • Full-stack experience
  • Experience with JIRA
  • Ability to track all time using predefined ticket numbers (the client's process makes this relatively painless)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Meteor.js
  • Experience with Go/Golang
  • Computer Science degree or comparable solid knowledge and real-world programming experience
  • Contribution to at least one Open Source project
  • Linux admin capabilities

As soon as possible.

The pay rate for this role is from $30 to $125 USD per hour, depending on experience and capability.

The client prefers someone who is looking for part-time work and is open to working as an hourly W2 employee. While you don't need to be a US citizen, you must be working within the United States for this project.
