React Developer

Saga Ventures react javascript

The salary range is so wide because I would like some of the compensation to be variable or performance based (such as bonuses when new apps and or meaningful features are launched). I know money is the most important thing to you. It is for me too. I am prepared to pay the right person a lot of money, especially for a remote job. This is up to you and I to discuss. If you want equity I am willing to do that after a standard vesting cliff period. In fact I would love if you really wanted equity and were that type of person -- one that cared about the long-term.

Saga Ventures is hiring for the role of CTO/Tech Lead. We’ll give you any title you want if you get things done.

As CTO/Tech Lead you will be responsible for the oversight of, the hiring process of and the development of multiple web and mobile applications.

Saga Ventures is a startup based in Switzerland that builds products that solve its founder’s problems. Basically the founder is solving his own problems with software. The founder is technical but has too many ideas and wants to implement more than one idea at a time. Your job is to lead the development of these software projects. Whether that is outsourcing hiring on freelance websites or hiring full time employees, that’s your choice (almost entirely; I may push back on a decision to see how well you’ve thought it out or something like that).

Top 5 reasons to work with Saga Ventures.

The person you report to (me, the guy writing this) wants as minimal contact as possible. This means you will be working autonomously almost the entire time. You will be asked to give a weekly report of the progress made each week on each application. This is how I will judge your performance. I will track budgeting with you. We may need to have calls, especially at the beginning of the job, but I generally do not like having calls. I am not one of those bosses who insists on doing things for the sake of doing them.

This is not a role where you will learn from others, technically speaking. You should be confident and familiar with all aspects of web and mobile application development (React Native specific). You should be comfortable with and desire to work independently.

The ideas and applications we are working on are not pie in the sky ideas. They are all intended to solve current problems of the founder. For some of the ideas, competing applications exist. For others, the problems we will be working on are not currently realized by the public. They are new. One example problem is how to easily share only the code that a remote developer needs to work on a repository of code.

Two of the five ideas have partially developed apps. They need love and attention from someone focused.

The themes of the products are:

Remote Work
Investing and Finance
Language Learning
Longevity/Anti-aging

All of the above themes are passions of his and industries he is highly experienced in (except longevity, that is a mere passion with a missing website ;).

Things I Care About

Your ability to work independently on full feature sets bringing product specifications to life.
You should basically never ask me a technical question. I am trying to not code at all here. I do product, design, strategy, finance, business stuff. You do and lead everything else.
Be able to take ownership of problems with a determination to solve them (this sentence was from a boilerplate job description from another one that I copied but it sounded good.

Things I don’t care about:

Agile development or any other development styles and how you get things built. [I may steer you towards certain development approaches though (such as using the same tech stack and directory structure across apps to maximize development efficiency)].
Where you live
When you work on a daily basis. If we don’t have to speak with one another, we don’t. It would be great if we could be a text-only company. Automattic is. Why can’t Saga Ventures be?

Skills required:

React/React-Native/React-Native-Web for frontend
Experience leading development projects or the confidence and ability to do so
Would be nice if you had a good understanding of AWS with some devops experience

As CTO/Tech Lead you must be highly proficient in React Native. We share as much code as possible between mobile and web applications by using the React Native Web package.

Our backend is the classic Express, MongoDB/Mongoose.

Every day, we design and build a wide variety of high-profile applications. We discuss and design architectures, review code, and research new front-end technologies. We talk to our clients directly, guiding them through the process, identifying potential problems and unknowns, and tackling challenges.

We help one another freely. We keep a Slack channel called ask-help and it's used constantly. We develop new skills, build better developer tools, and work on new types of projects regularly - and take the time to present at conferences, give trainings, and run meetups. We're huge devotees of open source, and our community of developers is second to none.

Our fully remote team consists of about 60 developers and designers located around the US and Canada. We welcome diversity and non-traditional paths into the developer profession - we want the right person, not the right collection of tech keywords.

Intertoob Scanner Builder (Fullstack Engineer)

Carve Systems in Golden, CO 1765 mi postgresql python django celery html

You will join our team to help us build our security product, an attack surface monitoring engine. You will be responsible for working with the management team to design and guide the product's growth. The role will require the engineer to occasionally work directly with customers to understand their needs.

You will also get the opportunity to work with our talented team of information security consultants and collaborate with them on projects on occasion.

About the product

We are building a SaaS product that helps customers discover, manage, and secure their external facing attack surface. The product is already at its MVP stage, performing deep port scanning and probing for our consulting customers in a production capacity. We are currently in the process of making the MVP generally available. It is primarily implemented in Python using Django, celery, and other technologies in the Python stack. We run Postgres as our database along with other standard web application technologies. We perform daily deep scanning (all TCP ports of all customer addresses) and perform a number of secondary analysis probes to help identify services and provide insight into our customer's attack surface.

Who are we looking for?

We need a senior engineer capable of independently solving problems and improving every aspect of our product and its development environment. This role requires an experienced engineer that can transition seamlessly from backend distributed processing work to front end UI/UX work. You will work on every aspect of the system.

Why Carve

We are a small, stable, successful information consultancy. We don't have a lot of meetings. We are a remote first organization and have been for 8 years. We want to ship code and solve problems for our customers. You will be working with a small team that has a lot of autonomy over how you build software. You will work in an apolitical environment that prioritizes work-life harmony. No formal project manager. No scrum master. No SAFe. Just you. Your keyboard. Your wits. We mean it. If this sounds appealing to you, then you are probably a good fit.

Day to Day

  • Write code

  • Ship code

  • Keep our production environment happy

  • Listen to, and keep, customers happy

Skills & Requirements (technologies)

  • Python is a big plus

  • Distributed Computing and Asynchronous Processing

We're hiring Frontend Software Engineers at DataGrail!

At DataGrail, Frontend engineering strikes a balance between the worlds of Software and Design. We work with designers to help them craft practical ideas in Figma, then use our expertise with web technologies to bring that vision to life. We care about testability, maintainability, and enabling developers to build features with ease. We seek out feedback on our approach to problems, and provide positive reviews that help to teach and enable others to improve alongside us.

You’ll Own

As a Frontend software engineer, you’ll build and own DataGrail’s core products. These systems build trust for our customers and keep them compliant with the law.

Our Frontend stack consists of React and Typescript. We use Styled Components and React Material UI to bring designs to life, and we test those implementations with React Testing Library and RainforestQA automation suite. You don't need to know these exact technologies and you don't have to be an expert in all these areas, but prepare to shine in something.

‍ You’ll Improve

Our engineers take a broad view of what to improve in how we build products.

DataGrail is growing…fast. The decisions we make today may not make sense in two years. The best engineers pivot from problems to solutions. You’ll help the team make appropriate tradeoffs. You’re comfortable with good enough over perfect.

You might focus on reinforcing our security posture. As a privacy company, we are serious about security.

You may help us improve our tools and workflows for getting code into customer hands faster.

Or you could work with Customer Success to give new customers the tools to be successful faster. We’re fanatical about customer experience and sweat the details (include “Alan Turing” in your resume or cover letter).

You’ll Teach

Software engineering is a team sport. You’ll bring others along and join them on the journey.

Do you have a great tip for debugging via your IDE that saves you tons of time? We want to see it on Slack.

Did you present at a conference on what you learned scaling another system by 100x? Give the talk as a lunch and learn.

We’re hiring you for all the past lessons building software that you’ve internalized. Yes, even the mistakes you’ve made.

You’ll Learn

You’ll learn how to scale a business, an organization, and a product.

The Opportunity

Our work in education is aimed at ensuring that every student — not just a lucky few — can get an education that’s tailored to their individual needs and supports every aspect of their development. We’re pairing engineering with grantmaking, impact investing, policy, and advocacy work to help every young person enter adulthood with the skills and abilities they need to reach their full potential — and equip every teacher with the tools and research they need to help students get there. The Education Infrastructure team supports the development of the Summit Learning Platform and Along. By building shared tools and infrastructure, we ensure that the platform is stable, performant, secure, and scalable. In this role, you will partner closely with members of the product engineering team and the core infrastructure team to cultivate shared best practices that will allow the entire team to rapidly improve our product.

You will

  • Build tools and processes to increase automated testing adoption in the org (react-testing-library, puppeteer)

  • Evangelize best practices in frontend development in partnership with product engineering teams

  • Design, build, and maintain frontend infrastructure that improve performance and reliability through tooling, build systems, and shared components

  • Contribute to the development of a new design system to increase productivity of product teams

  • Initiate and complete migrations (library upgrades, Flow -> Typescript, etc)

  • Build systems and tools for product teams to ensure our applications are accessible

You have

  • Experience building and improving rich web applications using Javascript

  • Shown ability to work collaboratively with teams and ship high-quality code

  • Strong ownership over projects and can work with ambiguity

  • Eagerness to learn and grow as a software engineer and contribute back by mentoring others
