Staff Node.js Developer & Ops Engineer

GRT is carefully searching for new candidates for a high profile, global commerce engagement located in Sunnyvale and San Bruno, CA. Onsite is preferred but Pacific Time zone a baseline focus.

GRT has been engaged for 5 years, existing team totals 9 contributors in place. Client has asked to consider a TEMP -> PERM approach for remaining additions in 2019 thus their preference for the new role being described here.

We are looking for a solid foundation of technology understanding and work/school experience; we are also equally interested in promising communication skills, and growth potential of any candidate.

Required Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or
    Mathematics or 5 years of applicable industry experience

  • Self motivated individual/leader looking for challenging work material in a dynamic team environment. Strong communication skills a must with abilities to interact with both technical and non-techical client personnel.

Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years of Javascript backend and Node.js development experience

  • Expertise in backend engineering

  • Knowledge of Node.js Frameworks such as Express.Js or Hapi.Js is a big plus

  • Good to have Messaging queue experience(e.g., Kafka)

  • Understanding of REST and API design

  • General Dev Ops exposure including Azure

  • Experience with NoSQL, Relational DB experience (Redis/Memcached, MySQL/Oracle)

Role will both lead and participate in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wire frames); writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with project team and cross functional teams; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; enhancing design to prevent re-occurrences of defects; ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs; interacting with project manager to provide input on project plan; and providing leadership to the project team.

Troubleshoots business and production issues by reviewing and analyzing information (for example, issue, impact, critical, possible root cause); engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues; formulating an action plan; directing actions as designated in the plan; interpreting the results to determine further action; performs root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues; and completing online documentation.

Supports business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities; addressing high-priority initiatives (for example, business strategy, technical feasibility, implementation alternatives); identifying short- and long-term solutions; and leading cross-functional partnership.

Leads the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high level design by partnering with the product management, Web Operations, project management, business and user experience teams; obtaining cross-function approvals; driving proof-of-concept; and implementing prototypes to validate ideas.

Requirements

  • Expertise with Linux system administration and networking technologies like DNS, TCP/IP, etc.

  • Knowledgeable about a wide range of web and internet technologies

  • Knowledge of database operations and concepts

  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services and other Cloud infrastructure platforms (e.g. GCP, Azure)

  • Experience in monitoring, system performance data collection and analysis, and reporting

  • Capability to write small programs/scripts to solve both short-term systems problems

  • A CS/CE degree or equivalent experience

  • A keen interest in learning new things
