TalkJS

TalkJS lets developers build a perfect chat feature in just a few hours. We power communication in online marketplaces, community sites, trading platforms and so on.

We're product driven and we care tremendously about quality: We're out to build the tool that every developer worldwide will use to build chat/communication features. TalkJS touches millions of people and is growing quickly.

We're hiring smart & autonomous people to solve challenging problems. We think you ship your best work when you're happy, well-rested, have a healthy work/life balance, and get full autonomy to make the right calls. More info on https://talkjs.com/jobs.

Senior Fullstack Developer

We want TalkJS to be the default tool for developers to build chat features. To accomplish that vision, we need to make TalkJS deliciously customizable and still fantastic out of the box.

We're looking to extend the team with someone who has broad front- and backend experience. Stack includes React/TypeScript/Elixir but it's OK if you're not experienced with all of those precisely. Our humble goal is to ship a product that's super simple to install, fantastic to use immediately, and infinitely customizable. Simple and customizable seem deeply at odds with each other, but we think we can pull it off. If you're up for the challenge of marrying the two, then this is for you.

We offer tremendous freedom and responsibility + work in a remarkably decent codebase (for a startup :D). At TalkJS we like to think that we're good at striking a balance between meticulous code and shipping quickly. If that sounds like your kind of environment, then this is for you.

Our ideal candidate:

  • has broad technical interests
  • likes to design great APIs for other programmers
  • has demonstrable experience writing single-page web applications
  • has demonstrable experience writing backends
  • knows at least 3 programming languages well
  • likes to work together with the team to make our product better across the board

Bonus points if you know Elixir.

Salary varies with seniority and is benchmarked to Dutch/Amsterdam norms.

#What is the job?

No matter how powerful and flexible you build a platform, at the end of the day it’s the tools you present to the user that define the experience. Radix is seeking a savvy UX expert to come build the experiences that will define the future of decentralized finance (DeFi).

DeFi has turned out to be the killer app that is taking public distributed ledgers from niche products for speculators and hobbyists to projects of global economic significance, and with it has come a new paradigm for user interfaces. Authentication models, interoperability expectations, and the entire concept of user accounts are all undergoing dramatic changes; at Radix you’ll have the opportunity to define the way forward while working at the very cutting edge of a space undergoing furious growth.

Working from a series of end-to-end user scenarios, you will wireframe delightful user experiences and pitch your design to a team of brilliant folks who care very deeply about the end result. Next, you’ll work with artists and UI experts to produce a consumable design with appropriate fonts, colors and iconography, after which you’ll move on to implementation with a small team. You’ll be primarily focused on delivering the front-end, but expect a healthy dose of implementing the requisite services you will consume, as well.

#What are we looking for?

You’re able to isolate the 90% case for user experiences. You think in terms of making the most common interactions effortless, rather than making anything possible.
When discussing new capabilities, your first instinct is to think of the user story rather than the feature set.
You don’t get wedded to ideas. You’re not reluctant to throw prototypes away when something isn’t working.
You’re a confident coder who has built public-facing user interfaces in the past. You have some experience building REST services and/or WebSocket backends.
You’re intelligent and learn quickly. Absolutely no one at Radix winds up only doing what’s in their job description, and adaptability is essential.

#What do you need?

4+ years as a professional software engineer

Fluent in JavaScript and TypeScript

Fluent with React or Vue

Comfortable with Java or C#

A love for all things crypto is a huge plus!

#Who are we?

At Radix, we're a team of like-minded thinkers who have long been convinced that we're living in the earliest stages of a global financial revolution. This revolution is being fuelled by decentralized finance (or DeFi for short), which is enabling an assortment of pioneering developers and entrepreneurs to re-invent almost every financial product that is currently traded and invested in traditional markets, without requiring central authorities or siloed infrastructure. DeFi has captured a great deal of attention and investment in the crypto-aware niche, growing assets under management from $1 billion to $40 billion in less than a year. Impressive as its growth has been, its current market size isn't even a rounding error on the over $111 trillion held in traditional finance. We're focused on what it will take to go from billions to trillions.

Radix went back to first principles to come up with the right technical solution—the first layer-one protocol built specifically for mainstream DeFi—and we have already tested out at over 1 million transactions per second. We're keenly aware that the need for an infinitely scalable platform is only one prerequisite among many for mass adoption, and we're also blazing new ground in the areas of purpose-built developer tools, user experiences, and regulatory integration.

We have forged a path deep into the future of what distributed ledger technology is going to look like and we need you to come and be part of the team that is making that happen right now.

Senior Software Engineer

After a heady year of going from 0 to 1 million users, we have secured funding from some of Silicon Valley’s top investors to grow our engineering team to accelerate our growth to 10 million users. You will join a small team of 4 engineers (two others on front-end) dedicated to maintaining and growing our integrations (including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, Gmail) enabling voice messaging and feedback use cases for the education sector and beyond.

About Mote

Mote's mission is to make voice messaging faster and more useful for busy people everywhere. We help our users to type less, and talk more, so they can save time, communicate clearly and feel better connected.

The stack you will be working on

The current front-end stack is built with ReactJS, JavaScript, styled components, Tailwind CSS, increasing migration to TypeScript and a fairly usual suspect modern toolchain of Webpack, Jest, Playwright, yarn workspaces, Storybook, Github, CircleCI, CloudFront, Sentry and Datadog. We are working towards migrating parts of our codebase to TypeScript and we would really love your help!

The back-end is built with Python, Flask, Redis, Dynamo, ECS, S3 and sprinklings of Azure and GCP. A desire to contribute to back-end API implementation is welcomed if full stack feature ownership is strongly desired as a preferred way of working, but is very far from an essential requirement.

The role

As a full time front-end engineer typical duties will include:

  1. maintain and build new features powering our website and Chrome extension
  2. extending our layers of test automation (Jest, QA Wolf)
  3. review and feedback on Figma UX with our Designer
  4. contribute to coding standards and tooling
  5. write or review technical proposals on longer running work streams like refactoring the codebase, localisation, increasing test coverage, or packaging up our code into an SDK, porting our experience to React Native

If you like “full-stacking” features, and are willing, able or just curious to learn and contribute to our Python, that is a bonus though not an expectation.

How we work

  • We are a remote-only Product and Engineering team based in Europe. We believe some synchrony while we remain small is a startup superpower for being able to stay nimble and flexible. Therefore, team members are expected to be significantly reachable on Slack and Zoom over a 6 hour window between 9 AM to 3 PM GMT during weekdays.
  • We are not a huge fan of meetings, having all experienced megacorp meeting anti-patterns, but some high bandwidth communication is necessary for effective team collaboration. At a minimum, we have one weekly sprint retro and planning session, daily engineering stand ups and monthly company-wide town halls. Over and above that, we take a pragmatic, iterative view on the right communication tools and approaches for different types of collaboration, ranging from quick questions in Slack DMs, to tickets in Clubhouse, PRDs and tech specs in Google Docs, Figma design specs, ad hoc Zoom sessions to brainstorm problems, and planned Zoom sessions to review designs or specs.
  • Feedback is one of the core use cases of our product. We strongly believe a startup is an accelerated learning laboratory where the most important practise is to constantly and positively reflect on our behaviour and results, providing individual and collective feedback regularly.

Requirements

  • You are a senior front-end engineer, with at least 5 years experience at fast-growth consumer and/or SaaS tech companies.
  • Demonstrable command of working with production JavaScript/TypeScript codebases
  • You either have formal degree-level training in Computer Science or can demonstrate solid evidence of self-taught solid grasp of fundamentals.
  • You have demonstrated you are a high impact team contributor combining high levels of accuracy, rigour and output.
  • You have excellent judgement on engineering trade-offs, with a fine-tuned sense of when to pick between accruing more tech debt, leaving as is but increasing tests, refactoring or wholesale rewriting.
  • You live by the “no asshole” rule, demonstrating high levels of empathy for peers, non-technical colleagues and users.

We are developing a proof of concept for mobile with React Native, so experience there is desirable but not essential.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Stock option plan
  • Leave package
  • Work from home
  • Flexible hours
  • Working with an amazing team

Senior Frontend Developer

Remote Senior Frontend Developer for Likvido (VueJS/Vuex/Webpack/Sass)

Hello there! Are you ready for a really ambitious position as a senior frontend developer?

And yes, the role is fully remote, so you can do your job wherever you want; from the beach, the pyramids, even from the moon if you like (well, of course you need to have an internet connection).

Likvido is a (very) fast-growing startup. We are around 60 employees now, and we are aiming for a series A funding to realize our huuuuge ambitions for the coming years.

We are now looking for a Senior Frontend Developer that can bring our visuals, UI/UX and frontend stack to the next level.

Let’s be polite and introduce ourselves first - so who are we and what are we doing?

Let's face it: accounting sucks. Entering data into a stupid system? Sending invoices? Trying to get the last decimals to match so your auditor doesn’t scream at you?

We would prefer spending time with family or friends. The same goes for our customers.

At Likvido we are automating accounting for our customers. We do this by having a super awesome product that helps you:

  • Send “smart invoices” that reconcile themselves
  • Send automatic reminders for invoices that go unpaid
  • Pay your bills in Likvido so you don’t have to go to your bank (and the bills of course reconcile themselves)
  • Automatically scan all your receipts and bills so you don’t have to enter data again
  • Get paid if an invoice has not been paid on time through our debt collection system

If you really hate accounting, we also have an accountant service where our accountants take care of everything for a small price.

So to summarize what Likvido is doing:

We are letting you focus on what matters, instead of spending time on boring administrative work.

Tech stack

Our main application is a web application, where our customers can interact with the product. This web application consists of a VueJS frontend and an API - using the Backend For Frontend (BFF) approach. This means we are evolving the frontend and API in a symbiosis, where the API requests are tailored to the exact use-cases of the frontend. The styling of the frontend is a custommade look built with Sass and designed by our in-house UX/UI designer in cooperation with Studio Skulptur: https://www.studioskulptur.com/likvido.

We use StoryBook to keep track of our Vue components. We are generally very open to adopting new technologies, whenever they provide some nice improvements over our current stack. One of the next steps we are considering is to upgrade from Vue 2 to Vue 3 as well as switching to TypeScript - but we need your input as well here!

You will join our current team, consisting of 9 colleagues, both frontend and full stack developers, plus a product team with UX/UI designers and product managers.

Responsibilities

Being a Senior Frontend Developer at Likvido, your job is to build awesome products. We want to “wow” our customers.

Day-to-day that means you will:

  • Implement new visual changes (HTML + CSS + JavaScript preferably in Vue.js)
  • Be responsible for the frontend technical stack in the solution in cooperation with the current team
  • Make sure we continue building and improving our “nice and reusable” UI components
  • Make code-reviews and be responsible for the JavaScript & HTML+CSS in the solution
  • Help push forward our platform and codebase, to make sure it is easy to maintain and performs well

You will participate in the development process, just like your colleagues do, which means maintaining the current codebase, adding new features, doing code reviews etc. We are moving towards forming small autonomous teams, with a very high level of ownership and influence over the product and the technologies. This environment provides a lot of freedom for the teams to take control over their work, and let their creativity unfold.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who can say “YES!” to the following:

  • I am a senior frontend developer with 5+ years of experience
  • I have multiple years of experience building a modern JavaScript stack. Also, I am familiar with build tools such as Webpack/Rollup and know how to set them up to use the latest JS features (ESNext) and new CSS specs.
  • I am up-to-date on the latest JS & CSS specs and know best practices around modern state management (like Redux, Vuex). This is important because we always strive to leverage the new technologies that make our lives easier.
  • I know how to set up a modern stack that makes use of client-side routing and offers all the things you’d expect from a modern SPA, such as offline-support, service workers, push notifications, etc.
  • Bonus: Experience writing unit tests as we want to cover the most critical areas with good tests, and we are already very far here

So without further ado: If you consider yourself a top frontend developer, and feel like having a very ambitious role is the next step in your career - APPLY!

Practicalities

  • You will work 100% remote along with our existing team
  • We work within CET office hours but are flexible to accommodate other schedules
  • We pay a good salary
  • We expect you to be fluent in English
  • The position is full-time
  • You manager will be operating from Denmark

At Saga, we are looking for multiple Full Stack Engineers to join our Engineering team. We are a small (but growing) remote company building a platform to connect knowledge and give teams contextual information at a glance.

What makes Saga different is the ability to author content while having an overview of any piece of information that might be relevant to your current work.

What working for our Engineering Team will be:

  • We will explore two core directions in the next year: 1) make Saga the best tool for teams to collaborate on knowledge creation; 2) integrate Saga with external tools to allow teams to have an overview of their extended knowledge.
  • No stone left unturned: as we’re a small team collaborating on every issue, expect to touch every part of the product at some point, from frontend to backend to scaling our infrastructure. This doesn’t mean you need to know it all already. Every team member brings in their unique expertise, and we all learn from each other.
  • Collaboration over individual contribution. We collaborate most of the time over video. This means pair programming and deciding as a group how to move forward with any issue. Every two weeks, we decide together what to focus on, then we tackle those problems together to completion.
  • Flexible working hours. We strive to work together as much as possible to increase our collective throughput, but you will be able to set your own schedule and adjust your hours depending on your needs.
  • You will face hard technical challenges. We need to scale our product to digest information of ever-increasing orders of magnitude while keeping the user experience as simple as it can be.
  • Customer-facing, always. We have communities on Discord, Slack, and Reddit, you will be able to assess directly user feedback and iterate on it.
Open-source. We support and actively contribute to open source libraries that power Saga. You will have a chance to work on software that will be used by the open-source community at large.

What we’re looking for:

  • You have experience with (or interest in) React, Typescript, Node.js. Optionally, you have experience with GraphQL, Postgres, Firebase.
  • Bonus points if you have experience with one of: indexing and search engines; managing infrastructure at scale; CRDTs, and real-time collaboration libraries.
  • You know how to start a project from scratch. You have built an impressive side project, led a project in your day job or at school or you have been a founder before.
  • You think product-first. You want to create something used and loved by millions and are careful about shipping with customers in mind.
  • You can use your communication skills to make remote work a joy. You will seldomly see your colleagues in person, therefore communication is key. We document everything we do, and strive to have an open communication culture.

What we offer in return:

  • Generous compensation and employee-friendly equity options in Saga
  • 25 days paid vacation days on top of public holidays in your country
  • Flexible working hours
  • Home office equipment
  • Team retreats every few months in beautiful locations around the world (depending on Covid situation)

Please note that benefits may vary by country. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask us.

Diversity and inclusion:

We think diversity makes any company the best company it can be. We believe different backgrounds mean different points of view that can make us stronger and more robust as a company. We welcome people who are not afraid to challenge assumptions. We all live in different countries, speak different languages, have been or still are immigrants ourselves. We all had unorthodox careers, before starting Saga.

No matter where you come from or what your background is, we want to hear from you!

If you have any disability that might impact the interview process, please let us know if there’s any way we can make it better for you!

About the job

As Backend Engineer at Maybe, you'll be responsible for the server side code and APIs of our web applications. You'll be involved in the entire product development lifecycle including the design, development, deployment and maintenance of new and existing features. Ultimately, you'll be the driving force behind all backend activities.

The tech stack

We're still in very early days of Maybe, and as such, much of the tech stack is rapidly changing. Flexibility is key here and your input and expertise on the stack is very much wanted.

On a base level, experience with the following tech is a major pro:

  • SQL (we use Postgres, primarily)
  • TypeScript
  • Node
  • GraphQL
  • Serverless
  • Amazon Web Services (RDS, ECS, Lambda, KMS, CloudWatch)

About you

  • You've built complex backends in TypeScript/Node, but you also know other languages.
  • You've shipped large applications with many components and data structures.
  • You've worked with different databases and know how to optimize complex queries.
  • You have a proven ability to design interfaces that stand the test of time.
  • You have experience building and working on distributed systems.
  • You have experience integrating complex 3rd party APIs
  • You are strong self-manager, capable of being a "CEO" of your area.

About Maybe

At Maybe we're building the next generation of financial & retirement planning tools. Founded in 2021, we're working to equip consumers with the resources they need to take control of their financial future.

Working 30 years and then riding off in to the sunset at 65 isn't the goal for most people anymore. They want to experience life, take risks and pour their hearts in to what matters most to them. They want to dream. And Maybe helps them do that.

Maybe you open a coffee shop? Maybe you take a trip to Asia? Maybe you put your money in to index funds and live off the returns? Maybe you dabble in crypto? Maybe you invest in art? Maybe you buy your dream home?

Maybe helps you figure out what's possible and how to get there.

Compensation

Let me preface this by saying the way we do employment at Maybe is very atypical. We're trying hard to come up with a model for building a company that incentivizes team members to be loyal to their craft and not a company. If any of this is confusing, please just ask (josh@maybe.co). More than happy to talk things through!

At Maybe, we're building tools for financial independence and managing your wealth yourself, breaking the traditional system.

In the same way we want our customers to be independent and in control of their futures, we want our team to be as well. If we can't individually control our futures, how can we expect our users to do the same?

We have no full-time employees. Everyone works as a part-time, hourly contractor.

The rate for this role is $100/hour, increasing to $125 after your first 6 months.

Read about our anti-overtime policy →

In an effort to reduce overworking, your first 20 hours per week are billed at your full rate. Any hours past that are billed at 75% your hourly rate.

As an example, in your first year, if you worked 35 hours a week for 50 weeks of the year, your annual salary would be $175,780.

Senior Software Engineer

At Sugar, we make residential properties feel like home by fostering community among residents and integrating deeply with the technology stack that powers modern buildings.

Most residential apps are clunky, outdated, and a pain to use. Tasks as simple as paying rent, communicating with your property manager, or unlocking your door are cumbersome and tedious. Many residents feel isolated and disconnected from their neighbors, which is especially relevant in the light of COVID-19 and its impact. This leads to high resident turnover, negative online reviews, and decreased revenue for building owners.

By building delightful experiences for our users, we're creating a positive-sum world where residents thrive and property value is maximized.

As residents ourselves, we're creating the living experience we wish we had - and helping property owners deliver that experience to their residents. We're fortunate to have built a team of ambitious, curious, talented, and diverse individuals who are passionate about this problem space.

We're looking for an experienced full stack engineer to help us drive our mission forward. This role reports to the Lead Software Engineer.

Importance of Engineering

Our users trust us with one of the most personal aspects of their lives - access to their home and their community. As such, we hold ourselves to incredibly high standards of reliability, security, and usability. Building systems that meet these demands is a challenging task.

Some of the engineering problems that we solve on a daily basis include:

  • Reliably and securely controlling on-premises hardware and IoT devices in varying network conditions
  • Integrating with legacy enterprise software in a way that masks the underlying complexity
  • Crafting fluid, intuitive interfaces with sub-100ms interactions on a wide variety of end-user devices

Building the systems that represent the future of residential living is brimming with complexity and opportunity. We'd love your help.

What we’re looking for:

  • You have 5+ years of experience building consumer-facing applications, or can demonstrate a similar proficiency
  • You have a strong command of technologies like Django, Postgres, Redis, React/React Native, and GraphQL
  • You're able to learn quickly and you embrace the opportunity to share your knowledge with others
  • You enjoy experimentation and can build large applications through small iterative releases.
  • You thrive in an early-stage startup environment, working closely with a tight knit team, learning daily from users, and having autonomy and ownership over the products you build
  • You're an excellent communicator, and are able to clearly distill complex topics for both technical and non-technical team members
  • You're able to break down large problems down and deeply understand the tradeoffs involved in solving them
  • You're humble, kind, and incredibly self-aware
  • You know your own weak spots intimately and have a genuine desire to improve
  • You’re looking for a long-term role with a company that has long-term ambition

Bonus points if:

  • You have experience working with physical access control systems
  • You have a background in information security
  • You have experience building applications that meet the standards of SOC-2 or ISO-27001 compliance

Senior Front End Developer

Job title: Senior Frontend (Typescript, React/React Native) developer
Type: Remote, permanent, full-time position

Do you have a soft spot for profitable companies with a meaningful, globally used and loved product? Would you like to work within a compact, super-capable team in a refreshing work environment? Would you like to work on an application that is changing the way we learn and communicate? Drops could be the place for you.

About us:
Our goal at Drops is to ensure effective language learning through a delightful, seamless, gamified experience. We strive to be the #1 app for vocabulary learning. Our app has been live on the App Store for 4 years, covering 42 languages, serving over 27 million users across the globe and has been featured on both the App Store (App of the Day) and Play Store (App of the Year in 2018). Drops has also been featured by TechCrunch, FastCo, Forbes, CNN, Bloomberg, VentureBeat and many, many more. In short, we’re a tiny but very powerful team spread (mostly) across Europe, achieving great things the remote way! In December 2020, Drops was acquired by Kahoot!, the world’s leading game-based learning platform

Check us out here: https://languagedrops.com

About you:
You’re a no-nonsense person, comfortable taking on a variety of projects who has been working within product companies and has extensive front-end development experience.

You’ve spent years working with React and have experience in React Native with a deep understanding of the internal workings be it working within the browser or a mobile client. You enjoy the challenge of growing a product from an (already) large user base to a larger one with tens of millions of MAU with all the complexities it comes with.

You are an advocate for static typing and prefer to use a minimal set of simple tools over a diverse range of complex ones.

You believe variety is the spice of life - In this role, you’ll be developing a complex app deployable to web and app stores, a static site generator, building internal automation infrastructure/tooling and contributing to our internal CMS. You could also be working on our fully serverless architecture on the backend if you feel comfortable doing so.

Drops is a deliberately small, but super effective team. You’re naturally drawn to the fate of the products & driven to grow as an engineer rather than to manage people.

The role:
You’ll be a core part of the development team, working on both our main (Drops) and auxiliary products (Droplets, Visual Dictionary, Internal CMS tooling). Drops values clear, honest communication and transparency. It’s the linchpin of our culture, success and freedom. You’ll be involved in both high and low level decision making and are available during European working hours (10AM - 6PM CET). Remember, we’re looking for a missionary here rather than a mercenary.

You will:
Work cross functionally with our lead designer / data analyst / engineers / project owner to define, scope, estimate and plan various aspects of the product.
Work independently (and with other engineers!) to develop new web experiences
Support of production applications / sites that you’ve built or helped to build
Communicate effectively and often to ensure that everyone is aligned

What’d be different here:
We’re a small team. We’re optimising for impact, not for headcount. You’ll be carefully considering any tradeoff that would lead to increased complexity
We’re using a single programming language - TypeScript. We have strict linter rules Every pull request needs to be approved before it lands in master. We use the rebase workflow and we release a few times a week
We’re using React + Redux to develop UI, on both mobile and the web. We use selectors extensively. Our backend is on AWS, deployed multi-region to Lambda and using RDS for our DB
We are BIG on AB testing. We focus on releasing high impact projects and minimise noise
We’re doing things in a functional way, concentrating state, minimising side effects and making dependencies explicit. We’re sharing 98%+ of the code between Android, iOS and Web
We automate where it has positive ROI
Our biggest challenge is (and will remain) managing the complexity of sharing a lot of code between different apps

You have:
At least 5 years of experience in software (product) development
At least 2 years of experience in building apps with React or React Native with state management tools (redux, flux, etc)
Experience architecting and developing complex web or mobile apps and static sites
Some experience in understanding basic user funnels, and collaborating with support to resolve user-facing issues
Project management experience (everyone manages projects at Drops)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
The ability to work well cross-functionally
Experienced in strongly typed languages

Benefits:
🌍 All the perks of remote working
👥 An awesomely compact 20 person team
🧠 Yearly educational allowance
💪 Fitness allowance
💻 High-end Apple hardware and ergonomic accessories
🏖 36 days of holiday per year
✈️ Quarterly team gathering somewhere in the world (Amsterdam, Iceland, Lisbon and Budapest were previous locations)

Our Front End Engineers (encompassing web and UX) work closely with software engineering teams, designers and product managers to not only build incredible merchant-facing products, but also engineer-facing tools. You’ll use modern technologies and frameworks like Typescript, React, GraphQL and Apollo, and the latest web standards in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and Ruby on Rails, to develop large front-end web applications that scale and perform well on all devices. You’ll work across disciplines and are excited about building human-centered experiences. You’ll work closely with the teams that create compelling content, build awareness of Shopify, and communicate stories about Shopify's role in commerce to a global audience. Or, you might focus on creating thoughtful product interfaces for our users, shape our design language, and contribute to our shared component libraries in a maintainable and scalable way.

Infrastructure
Are you looking for an opportunity to work on planet-scale infrastructure? Do you want your work to impact thousands of developers and millions of customers? Do you genuinely enjoy tackling complex problems, and learning through experimentation? Shopify Production Engineering is all this and more. The Production Engineering team builds and maintains Shopify’s critical infrastructure through software and systems engineering. We make sure Shopify—the world’s fastest growing commerce platform—is able to scale massively while staying resilient for our 2000+ development team to build on and our 1 million merchants to depend on. Some of the technology that the team uses: Ruby, Rails, Go, Kubernetes, MySQL, Redis, Memcached, Docker, Distributed Systems, Google Cloud. Is some of this tech new to you? That’s OK! We know not everyone will come in fully familiar with this stack, and we provide support to learn on the job.

Qualifications

What you’ll do as a Senior Software Engineer at Shopify:

  • Collaborating with other designers and engineers
  • Creating beautiful and fast code that improves our code base in meaningful ways
  • Using test-driven development to write well-tested code
  • Fixing bugs fast and taking your time to solve hard problems well
  • Building and maintaining Shopify’s critical infrastructure through software and systems engineering
  • Contributing back to the open source community

Experience and skills that are important for success in this role:

  • Experience using technologies and frameworks like (but not limited to) some of our most-used languages — Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, Java/JEE, Node.js, PHP, Python, React or React Native, Golang, Kubernetes — is an asset, but not required. Don’t have experience with many of them? No problem — deep experience with any object-oriented language and willingness to learn our tech stack goes a long way. (Also: Check out our Stackshare here.)
  • Curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things; Shopify changes fast, and we need the people who work here to be able to change and learn fast too
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL
  • Bonus Points: You’ve mentored teammates on new ways to deepen their technical craft

You’ll be working alongside Miguel, our CTO, to rebuild the interface of an existing product. Aside from that, we have newer products that we are constantly improving and more in the works for the coming months, all of which you'll have the opportunity of contributing to.

Interested? Here’s a summary of the role.

##Required skills:

###Bonus points for:

##Why work with us?

Remote jobs, especially related to React development, are in abundance right now and we know that.

Here’s what we offer to all our team members, whether they are employees or freelancers, full-time or not.

###Timezones aren’t an issue

Although you may need to be around for a team call here and there, most of the time you’ll be able to work asynchronously at any time you want. If you’re a night owl, go for it. If you’re more of a morning person, that works too. Whether you’re in Europe or somewhere else around the world, we make timezones work for us by making sure that we can all be flexible and show up when it’s absolutely needed.

###Learning more on the job

Working alongside Miguel will allow you to learn from him (and his many years of development experience) while he also learns from you. If there’s something that you don’t know how to do, that’s fine. We’ll help you to learn and apply it in your work. The required skills above aren’t really optional, but if you’re unsure about one or two, we’ll probably be able to make things work. Aside from working alongside Miguel, you’ll also work with me (Mark), the CEO, to ensure that the projects move along smoothly. I’m typically more involved in the project management and UI/UX design aspects of our products, so we’ll be in contact from time to time, especially early on as you get adjusted to the way we work and the products we’re building.

We encourage everyone on our team to get involved in improving the company as a whole too, so if you ever see areas that we can improve in, even outside of development, I’m all ears. Our team is very open with each other and we like to constantly improve our processes to make sure everyone can work comfortably and reach their highest potential.

This position is a full-time role and it will potentially involve you in multiple projects over time, both existing and new ones.

##Who you are

Who you are is very important to us. Apart from your skills as a React developer, we’re looking for someone who is willing to learn, is open to feedback, is willing to critique others’ work in a constructive manner, and is a reliable person.

Senior JavaScript Backend Engineers (Vancouver, BC, Canada)

Radical IO Technology javascript senior backend

Hiya! Were Radical I/O, a people-first enterprise software development consultancy and lab that develops technology with purpose. We work with cities and organizations to develop meaningful, data-driven solutions that provide people with easy access to information, when and where they need it.
THE POSITION

We're on the lookout for Senior JavaScript Backend Engineers with experience developing in NodeJS/Hapi with JSON and REST web service APIs on the backend/middleware. You will be extending existing APIs, and building new APIs and integrations, to be consumed by native iOS and Android mobile apps (and related web apps) that will be distributed to thousands of users within Canada. If you are also skilled in DevOps (nice-to-have), you will set up the mobile build automation and deployment systems for these mobile apps.
You should fully understand the end-to-end process of how web and mobile clients interact with JSON APIs including special cases like websockets. We are already using the Hapi Framework to build large organized APIs, and the Joi Framework to do validation, and will expect you to be, or quickly become, an expert with these. Integration with databases and services is the point of most of our expected APIs. You should be proficient with raw SQL queries and Knex to interact with databases (MySQL/Oracle/SQLServer). You will likely also develop new DB schemas for MySQL. You will also be creating APIs that call and transform data from other 3rd-party API services.
Typically you have worked on medium and large API applications and are comfortable working with enterprise customer expectations. We would consider it a bonus if you've worked with the government, or other civic organizations before. You are comfortable working with a high-level of independence, quality, and professionalism. As a senior member of the team, you are able to provide technical solutions for complex problems, accomplish advanced work quickly, and are there for your teammates when they need help. You strive to ensure that your API interfaces are useful to your teammate developers who will call them.
We are hiring 1-2 senior backend engineers for a 6 months+ contract to start in June. You will be working remotely from within Canada, and maximum working hours per week are 35-45 (40 on average). We will be shortlisting candidates within the next 1-2 weeks, with most phone screens and interviews taking place fairly quickly before the end of April, and further interviews taking place in May if needed.

REQUIREMENTS
We will be using the following in our project, so please highlight any relevant experience you have in any of these:

  • JSON API interface design and development using NodeJS, Hapi, Joi, JavaScript, including a thorough understanding of platform networking, and optimization. Understanding Typescript and Babel are nice to have.
  • Async/wait, promises, and optimizing JavaScript execution.
  • Advanced SQL for MySQL, Oracle, and MSSQL, and the Knex framework.
  • Data integrations between various legacy on-premise systems, CRM, SAAS apps, and APIs.
  • Security and Identity and Access Management: SSO, Federated Identity, OAuth2, OpenID Connect & standard auth flows, user directories, and security tokens. We will be working with ForgeRock IAM.
  • Docker for containerized workloads. Kubernetes and Terraform are nice to have.
  • Integrating with Firebase (with APNS/FCM) and making it run well.
  • Platform cryptography for security, encryption, keys and certificates, and TLS cipher hardening.
  • Developing on Linux, MacOS, and Windows.
  • Setting up cloud infrastructure using cloud services at AWS, Azure and/or GCP is nice-to-have.
  • Build automation and deployment for mobile and web applications using Jenkins and Fastlane. Gradle, npm maven, and xcodebuild are also nice to have.

We also usually look for people who:

  • Have 5+ years of software development experience.
  • Possess a university degree in computer science, engineering or related field,
    • or - a combination of experience and relevant certificates/learning/courses.
  • Are strong in other languages beyond JavaScript, like Java, C#, Go, Python, etc.
  • Have even deeper integration experience with ESB platforms, like TIBCO, Mulesoft, Azure ESB, and others.
  • Write clean code, have written unit tests, and adhere to effective software design principles.
  • Choose Git repos as their version control of choice.
  • Have worked within agile processes like Scrum or Kanban, and used tools like JIRA or similar.
  • Are comfortable working professionally with clients in varying industries.
  • Are problem-solvers, comfortable with ambiguity and unknowns, and love continuously learning.
  • Communicate and collaborate well and often.

Even if we don't contact you for an interview right away, we often have projects start fairly quickly with new clients, so we will always look through our applicant database first. We'd also love to keep a small roster of people we trust and who we can easily reach out to during these times.
THE OTHER STUFF

This is a remote, work-from-home opportunity, and there is the possibility for the role to be extended or other projects to follow after this one. We prefer to hire folks from the Greater Vancouver Area, then BC and AB in general so we can communicate more in real-time. However, we will also consider other senior engineers from within Canada based on your availability, flexibility to work within overlapping PST, and your skillset.
As this is a contract, we generally hire self-employed or incorporated people who are comfortable with invoicing for their work. However, for those who are not yet set up in this way, and are employees perhaps looking for temporary roles during this unprecedented pandemic time period, we are also able to put the successful candidate on our payroll as a limited-term, hourly employee. When applying, please select which situation applies to you (we are equally open to either situation).
Please note that due to our work with Canadian government (and related clients) and their data and privacy restrictions, we can only hire people who currently live in Canada and are authorized to work full-time in Canada for any employer, including engineers who are in Canada on valid working holiday visas and post-graduate work permits.
Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster. Do not contact us with unsolicited services or offers.

Senior Node.js Developer

Hi, I’m Dani, an entrepreneur, and a tech author & speaker.

Along with my business partner James, we’ve been on a mission to change the way people buy and sell online for over 8 years. We started Saily, the first app to buy & sell used stuff in 2012. We grew it to 500,000+ users before joining Mercari, the giant mobile marketplace. There we led Product & Growth and IPO’ed in 2018. Six months ago, we built Flyp, an app that connects small businesses to professional sellers who sell their clothing inventory for them. Pros handle pricing, listing, negotiating with buyers, packing and shipping each item, then splitting profits.

We're a small team of 7, and we're growing fast. We're looking to hire a full-time senior backend engineer to be in charge of our API (Node.js). The engineer will be developing API for our existing mobile app and internal tools, in addition to handling scaling, performance, and security.

We value attitude over skills. We’re looking for someone to treat this startup as their own, have opinions, be involved in decision making, have a hacker mindset, and be result-driven. Although we’re a remote-first startup, we make sure to have overlapping hours across the team to boost productivity.

About Us

At Close, we're building the sales communication platform of the future. With our roots as the very first sales CRM to include built-in calling, we're leading the industry toward eliminating manual processes and helping companies to close more deals (faster). Since our founding in 2013, we've grown to become a profitable, 100% globally distributed team of 43 high-performing, happy people that are dedicated to building a product our customers love.

Our app’s frontend is a single-page JavaScript web app mostly written in React (originally built with Backbone.js). We bundle with Webpack and target only modern browsers. We test with Jest and React Testing Library. Our UI updates in near real-time and is written in LESS/CSS (with flexbox and grid layout) using CSS modules and takes advantage of fun technologies like Websockets and WebRTC.

We care about performance (e.g. route-based code splitting), maintainability, and testability of our frontend code. We sweat the UI/UX details and work collaboratively with the Product team throughout the design process. This means diving into lo-fi Freehand wireframes, and communicating continuously when those ideas are brought to life using Figma and code.

Our frontend app is built on top of our REST API & GraphQL endpoints. Our backend tech stack consists of Python/Flask, MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis. We run our services in Docker on AWS.

We ❤️ open source – using dozens of open source projects with contributions to many of them, and released some of our own like react-custom-scroller, use-infinite-scroll, use-abortable-effect, backbone-testing-library, smart-tooltip-delay, Microphone Recorder to Mp3, filevalidator.js, addresscompiler, backbone.mousetrap, and more at https://github.com/closeio.

About You

We're looking for an experienced full-time Frontend Software Engineer to join our engineering team. Someone who has a solid understanding of web technologies and wants to help design, implement, and launch major user-facing features.

You should have senior level experience (~5 years) building modern frontend applications in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with at least 3 years of that experience using a JS framework (React, Vue, Angular, Backbone, etc.).

You should have significant experience designing, debugging, and optimizing frontend applications to make them fast and reliable. You have significant experience with REST APIs and thoroughly understand HTTP requests. You have experience participating in code reviews and providing overall code quality suggestions to help maintain the structure and quality of the codebase.

You should have great product sense and be able to think through user experience issues before diving into the code, and you exhibit a love for great UI.

You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a small and talented team where you're supported in your efforts to grow professionally. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively and collaborate in a fully distributed team.

You are located in an American or European time zone.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience implementing real-time (e.g. websockets, polling, etc.) web apps
  • Experience working with GraphQL endpoints
  • An eye for design and experience with Figma, Sketch, Abstract, Photoshop, or similar
  • Led small project teams building and launching features
  • Contributed open source code (core or plugins) for a popular frontend framework such as React, Vue, or Angular
  • Built B2B SaaS products
  • Experience with sales or sales tools

Come help us with projects like:

  • Conceiving, designing, building, and launching new user-facing features
  • Working with Twilio's API, WebSockets, and WebRTC to improve our calling features
  • Building user-facing analytics features that provide actionable insights based on sales activity data
  • Improving real-time collaboration user experience
  • Expanding our frontend GraphQL usage
  • Extending our React component library

The platform combines a simple, modern UI with enterprise-grade tools, allowing technology companies to plan and manage their projects effectively, visualize progress across the organization, and define deadlines and milestones based upon data and predictive modeling.

What originally started as a Hack Day project has grown into a product that is used by more than 1,500 companies across the globe…and we have big plans to continue our growth. We currently have 35 employees worldwide, an HQ in New York City, and we’re backed by some of the best investors in tech.

Clubhouse’s engineering team is a diverse mix of individuals with experience at large and small companies and with a range of technical skill. We’re growing our Frontend Team and are looking for both mid-level and senior engineers who have experience working across the web stack. While most work will concentrate on building front end features and scaling our existing web systems, you may also work on projects that involve building components that interact with our infrastructure or database.

Our Frontend is written in JavaScript and we use React as our library of choice. Learn more about the tools the team uses to develop some of our products here.

  • Strong prioritization and communication skills and comfort managing priorities that shift
  • Collaboration skills: you’ve worked effectively with product and design teams in the past

### What we offer

  • In addition to a competitive salary and benefits, we’re offering a meaningful equity stake in the company.
  • You’ll be working on a product built specifically for software companies, with the aim of improving the lives of its users. We want you to help guide the product, not just build it for us.
  • You will be part of a small, professional and fast-moving team. Our work day is not broken up by meetings. Our codebase is small and well-tested. We contribute to the open source movement.

🔑 Work Directly with the Founder
⚕️ Health Insurance Reimbursement
🗺 Anywhere in the Americas or Europe
📛 Conferences and Learning Opportunities

Summary

Netalico is hiring a Frontend Developer to work directly with its founder. This is a new position with a fun, fully remote team that offers the opportunity to work with a variety of ecommerce stores and make an impact on their business.

About Us

Netalico is a hands-on, merchant focused ecommerce development agency. The team mostly works with Magento, Shopify, and Bigcommerce clients to build, maintain, optimize, and grow their online stores through smart, scalable code. They’re people and partners, not just another vendor.

Netalico started about ten years ago when Mark, the founder, was a freelance web developer. Over time, his team grew and they became ecommerce focused. Today, they have retainers with 25 companies, some of which have been clients for the past nine years. The team loves working with long-term clients because of the opportunity to build long term relationships. They’re invested in writing quality code and love growing with their clients as they help bring them success. Get to know the team a little bit more here!

Our Team

There are eight of us, all based within the Americas. Everyone works independently and there’s no micromanagement. We communicate daily on Slack, which is our virtual watercooler and we have lots of fun staying in touch. We have virtual company lunches where everyone will order their own lunch through ‘Uber Eats’ and we’ll play some games on Jackbox. Even though we’re all apart, we try to stay connected and keep things fun! We use Asana to manage our work.

The Role

The business has been doing well and growing the last few years. Our Shopify clients have increased and we want to build out the resources and our capabilities our company has to better service those clients. This is a new position to help scale that part of the company. That is why we are in need of a Frontend Developer to work directly with Mark, the founder.

Each day, there’ll be a mixed bag of tasks and various projects. Some projects are small while there’ll be longer, ongoing projects. There’s plenty of interesting ecommerce stores to work and interesting problems to be solved. The project managers will be communicating with the clients for you and handle the organization of the tasks to help keep everything straight forward and focused. One of the most important skills is attention to detail in matching the designs and testing on multiple devices and resolutions.

Over time, there’ll be the opportunity to specialize in ecommerce and grow your own team of developers.

Required Skills:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Javascript
  • JQuery
  • At least 2-4 years of experience of in professional development
  • Experience with converting designs to actual code

A background in agencies or ecommerce is a perk.

Experience with Shopify is not essential but it will definitely help. We’re most interested in someone who is an excellent frontend dev and can write great code.

Are you in?

Are you ready to work with Mark and build this part of the company? We want to hear from you!

About

Great products are hidden under a large amount of junk. At Picker empower the better products, brands and shoppers. Picker is a marketplace where Pickers share their favorite products and users buy them!

Buy better not more

Us

We're a small, diverse team located in Barcelona, Spain working with many different tools to bring the social commerce experience of Picker to our native Android, iOS and Web App. We practice trunk-based development, use CI/CD, write tests, use source control and use project management tools to manage our Agile workflows. We're not Agile puritans - Agile is 'being Agile' not religiously subscribing to a laid out process! That's why we have set dev tasks but understand the need for impromptu tasks/meetings, reworks and spikes. Our cloud-based stack is:

AWS powered using Lambdas

  • API is GraphQL with Apollo Server
  • Databases are: MySQLRedisElasticSearch and MongoDB
  • We use queueing systems like SQS and RabbitMQ
    Git/Github for source control + PRs/wikis/readmes

You

You're a motivated Software Developer. You're motivated by a desire to code and learn. Our opportunity is getting to work on a greenfield API and bring big innovation in how we query and mutate on GraphQL as well as cache and make our system performant and friendly to our DBs.

We're looking for people who:

  • are fluent in TypeScript or Javascript (preference for TS though) as well as English! 👨🏻‍🏫
  • know NodeJS really really well. 👩🏾‍🔬
  • have professional experience working with GraphQL or a strong desire to learn about it. 🏅
  • have professional experience working with cloud based services (preferably on AWS) - e.g. Cloud Functions (Lambda), Serverless Deployments (either Serverless framework or Cloudformation). ☁️

It would be nice if you:

  • have experience working in solving scaling issues, setting up monitoring for cloud services and having alarms in for code/services you're deploying. This is maybe more SRE/Devops related but in small startups we all take a bit of the responsibility for the uptime + quality of services running. 😉
  • have an interesting story to tell: We're a diverse company, we employ people of all ages, genders and walks of life because that's what Picker is all about: everyone brings their own background, hobbies and expertise to the table. That's how you find brand new things that you previously knew nothing about! 🐝
  • are a contributor to a known library! We love seeing peoples' githubs! 👩‍💻
  • have understandings of things like data pipelines, etl and have data mining experience. ⛏

What we offer:

  • Work from a cool office in Poblenou, Barcelona. If you're not near us, we'll see to it that you fly out once a year to meet the team and work together with us. We have the best coffee in Barcelona, guaranteed. ☕️
  • Early finish Fridays: we knock off an celebrate wins of the week at around 3pm each Friday. So if you're with us in the office or Zooming in from Ukraine, Turkey or Argentina make sure you have your beer ready. 🍺
  • Flexible working hours: overlapping on main meetings is important, but you get to choose when you work. 🤟🏻
