Front-endremote Jobs

Senior Fullstack Engineer Python JS

Gorgias helps e-commerce companies deliver excellent customer service at scale. We integrate email, live chat, voice, Facebook, Instagram, and SMS with Shopify, BigCommerce, and Magento.

Our product creates a unified customer profile by combining emails, live-chat, and social-media messages with e-commerce data such as purchase and delivery info. Combining all this data in a single application makes customer service more efficient and just better. Another fortunate side-effect is that some requests are completely automated using machine learning. 💬 + 📦 = ❤️

We've been around since 2015, and we're serving over 6000+ e-commerce businesses, including Steve Madden, Timbuk2, Decathlon, and Sports Illustrated.

Our growth exceeded 200% in 2020, so we raised $25 million Series B in December 2020 to double our global team and to accelerate our progress towards our mission to transform support from painful to exceptional for merchants. 🥳

This position is either fully remote (Central European timezones) or onsite at our Paris office (75011). We offer relocation for those interested.

👩‍💻 What are some of the things we work on?

The frontend is written in React and React Native with the state managed by Redux. The backend code is mostly written in Python3 and runs using Flask (REST API) and Celery for all background work. The state is stored in PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ with Redis for ephemeral storage, and finally, everything runs on Kubernetes.

Given the above, we usually work on one of these levels by improving the existing code, or we create a new feature which more often than not has a component on both frontend, backend, and maybe a migration in the database.

In short, we do full-stack development. Either way, it always good to have a good understanding of the entire stack to be effective.

🧙 Who are we at work?

We have a strong preference for people who worked with high-traffic web applications for the past 5+ years. We're essentially running a distributed system that has lots of moving parts and having a decent amount of experience with this type of system helps a lot!
Additionally, our apps have over 20k daily active users with sessions longer than 6h+/day and serve tens of millions end consumers per year, so we put great importance on quality, testing, and code-review of all our code.

If this is the type of environment you're looking for, then you should consider applying.

👩‍💻 About the Developer Relations Team

The mission of this young team (it just got created a few months ago) is to develop tools to enable 3rd party application developers to extend functionalities of the Gorgias help-desk with features from their own products. Some examples of applications built by 3rd party developers that are live today on our platform are:

  • enabling companies to send and receive messages on a new communication channel, like JustCall and Textline
  • displaying more customer data next to tickets, like Daasity.
  • proactively create tickets to anticipate customer issues, like LateShipment.

Currently, the team is working on creating an App Store to improve discoverability of apps developed by our partners. In parallel, we are building a Partners Portal, to enable those partners to manage their applications in a centralized way. After that, responsibilities will be to keep improving the partners portal and the App Store and develop features to enable 3rd party developers to create new cool functionalities within our platform.

Why Divvy?

Over the past decade, millions of Americans have been forced to put their dreams of homeownership on hold. Home prices have outpaced wage growth while mortgage requirements continue to tighten. As a result, renters are missing out on a critical wealth-building opportunity: owning a home.

At Divvy, we're building an on-ramp to homeownership – one that's more affordable, more flexible, and an overall better fit for the modern American family – and it’s working.

We’re looking for a Data Scientist to join our growing company. In this role, you’ll ensure the financial viability of our business by developing our underwriting and/or pricing models. Developing this model will also mean simulating new financial product offerings which match customer needs to Divvy’s capacities. Day to day, this will include a mix of dataset acquisition, statistical modeling, exploratory data analysis, and software engineering. You’ll report directly to Divvy’s CTO and work alongside a team of 8-10 software engineers and data scientists.

We are a world class team of software developers, data scientists and AI engineers. We build sophisticated AI solutions that leverage the latest advancements in natural language processing and image recognition. We’ve built out the infrastructure to rapidly develop customised AI solutions designed to read, understand and process unstructured data.

Our solutions are trusted by over 500 companies across the world, included in the ASX 100 and Fortune 500.

About the role

One of our products is Draftable, a simple yet sophisticated solution that makes it easy for anyone to review changes to business documents. Our users compare millions of documents each year across our web service, desktop software and developer API.

You will be the technical lead for the front-end of our Draftable product suite, including our intuitive comparison viewer sitting at the centre of each user’s experience.

You will be working with our Product Lead and other team members to prioritise and build features. You will spend at least 80% of your time thinking about how to implement things and writing code.

We are growing rapidly, so there are plenty of opportunities for career growth. We expect you to take an active role in evolving our engineering culture. Over time, we expect you to be a pivotal member in leading front-end projects across Affinda.

This role can potentially be done at two levels: Lead software engineer or Staff software engineer.

This role can be performed fully remotely, or if you are based in Melbourne, you are welcome at our new office across from Fed Square.

About you

  • You are either an expert front-end developer or an experienced full-stack developer. (We are all about adding great people to the team, rather than finding someone who fits perfectly into a fixed slot.)

  • You have 5+ years of experience with front-end development (Typescript, JS/ES6, CSS, HTML)

  • You have 2+ years of experience with React or a similar framework

  • You are a great communicator. You appreciate the importance of clear communication, especially when working with a remote team.

  • You are independent and self-reliant. You are happy working on a task by yourself, but you will take initiative to involve other team members when necessary

  • You have a high attention to detail. You are intimately familiar with the complexities of web development, e.g. mobile responsiveness, browser compatibility

  • You have a great sense of design. You like building software that delights users.

  • You have experience being the technical lead of a project and are comfortable both planning/architecting as well as diving into code as an individual contributor.

  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken, and can participate in an English-only work environment

About our culture

We are a small, friendly team of experienced professionals, and trust is at the core of our culture. We are all great at what we do and appreciate the value of working with highly competent peers. Collaboration is key to our success, and our flat structure ensures that we reach decisions quickly. We love to get things done.

Our development process is product-led. We are agile (but not Agile). We like short milestones. We launch things as soon as they’re ready. We like iterating based off user feedback. We do things right the first time, even if it takes a little longer. We don’t have much technical debt. We like good documentation. From time to time we promise a feature to customer, but we otherwise don’t have many external deadlines.

We understand you have a life outside work and we will respect your non-working and family time.

Our core collaboration hours are 12pm-8pm AEST (GMT+10). You will need to have at least 3 hours overlap.

Our services are very stable, and we haven’t had any critical incidents over the last year that required urgent attention from someone in this role.

Affinda is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to building a team that represents a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, skills and experiences.

At this time, we're hoping to hire a mid-level developer with a few years experience building client-side web applications in a professional setting.
