Front-endremote Jobs

Do you want to join us on our mission to shape democracies for the digital age? Are you looking for an international and fast-paced, yet collaborative and inclusive environment to thrive in?

CitizenLab, a social impact scale-up with headquarters in Brussels and offices in New York, Amsterdam, Paris, and London, aims to make public decision-making more participatory, inclusive, and responsive. The SaaS platform is already being used by over 300 cities and municipalities in 15+ countries, facilitating two-way communication between governments and their residents. Since it was founded in 2015, CitizenLab has enabled 750,000+ community members to weigh in on the local topics they care about, and got recently recognized as 'Best Social Impact Startup in Europe'.

Full-Stack Engineer at CitizenLab

As a Full-Stack Engineer in the Engagement squad, you contribute to our core product, which allows local governments to engage their citizens through a wide range of digital participation methods. You’re part of a cross-functional squad. While you can contribute to both our Ruby back-end and our React front-end, you specialize in one. You help your colleagues to bridge knowledge gaps.

At CitizenLab, we work in small teams where members collectively take ownership of the outcome of the features they build. We work in short iterations, test rigorously and release continuously. We’re strong believers in user testing and understanding live product usage.

Your responsibilities:

  • You actively contribute to the specifications of new features, uncovering technical constraints and breaking down the work in iterations and tasks.

  • You take ownership over your tasks and implement them in close contact with your colleagues.

  • You take into account all aspects, from data models to testing, to performance, delivering well-engineered scalable solutions.

  • You bridge the back-end/front-end knowledge gaps for your colleagues, seeing the full picture.

You deliver your work in small iterations, often soliciting feedback from colleagues, spontaneously and through code reviews.

#### What do we expect from you?

As our Full-Stack Engineer with a front or back-end focus:

  • You have multiple years of experience developing in Ruby on Rails or React and have at least played around with the other, or very similar. Experience with Elixir is a plus.

  • You know how to implement a modern user interface.

  • You know how to implement a sound API.

  • You’re a firm believer in well-tested and peer-reviewed code.

  • You take initiative and like to be challenged.

  • The ability to relocate to Brussels is a plus, but not a requirement.

Eagerness to learn, talent, and enthusiasm are more important than ticking the boxes. Even if not all desired requirements are met, but you're very excited about the role, we want to hear from you.

#### What can you expect from us?

  • Unlock your full potential and have a social impact at scale. We're daily working with +230 governments to connect them to their citizens.

  • Become a key factor in our rapid transition from startup to a scaleup (50 employees).

  • Work in a fast-paced, collaborative and supportive environment. We share a participatory culture of autonomy and ownership by everyone, not only by the leadership.

  • Be part of our dynamic, international team. We organize many team activities and afterworks (when possible). We are as serious about our work in digital democracy, as about having fun on our journey together.

  •  Informal work vibe with open communication and full transparency on results.

  • Participate in inspiring team lunches, our company book club, bi-quarterly strategic town halls, bi-yearly off-site team retreats.

  • Work 10% of your time on personal projects and self-development for the long run. We’re growing fast together, both collectively and individually.

  • Receive a competitive salary package, incl. perks such as 26 paid holidays, training budget, well-being budget, collective bonus plan, your own laptop, full flexibility on working from home, and much more.

CitizenLab is committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace. We encourage applicants of different backgrounds, cultures, genders, experiences, abilities and perspectives to apply.

Senior Fullstack Engineer Python JS

Gorgias helps e-commerce companies deliver excellent customer service at scale. We integrate email, live chat, voice, Facebook, Instagram, and SMS with Shopify, BigCommerce, and Magento.

Our product creates a unified customer profile by combining emails, live-chat, and social-media messages with e-commerce data such as purchase and delivery info. Combining all this data in a single application makes customer service more efficient and just better. Another fortunate side-effect is that some requests are completely automated using machine learning. 💬 + 📦 = ❤️

We've been around since 2015, and we're serving over 6000+ e-commerce businesses, including Steve Madden, Timbuk2, Decathlon, and Sports Illustrated.

Our growth exceeded 200% in 2020, so we raised $25 million Series B in December 2020 to double our global team and to accelerate our progress towards our mission to transform support from painful to exceptional for merchants. 🥳

This position is either fully remote (Central European timezones) or onsite at our Paris office (75011). We offer relocation for those interested.

👩‍💻 What are some of the things we work on?

The frontend is written in React and React Native with the state managed by Redux. The backend code is mostly written in Python3 and runs using Flask (REST API) and Celery for all background work. The state is stored in PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ with Redis for ephemeral storage, and finally, everything runs on Kubernetes.

Given the above, we usually work on one of these levels by improving the existing code, or we create a new feature which more often than not has a component on both frontend, backend, and maybe a migration in the database.

In short, we do full-stack development. Either way, it always good to have a good understanding of the entire stack to be effective.

🧙 Who are we at work?

We have a strong preference for people who worked with high-traffic web applications for the past 5+ years. We're essentially running a distributed system that has lots of moving parts and having a decent amount of experience with this type of system helps a lot!
Additionally, our apps have over 20k daily active users with sessions longer than 6h+/day and serve tens of millions end consumers per year, so we put great importance on quality, testing, and code-review of all our code.

If this is the type of environment you're looking for, then you should consider applying.

👩‍💻 About the Developer Relations Team

The mission of this young team (it just got created a few months ago) is to develop tools to enable 3rd party application developers to extend functionalities of the Gorgias help-desk with features from their own products. Some examples of applications built by 3rd party developers that are live today on our platform are:

  • enabling companies to send and receive messages on a new communication channel, like JustCall and Textline
  • displaying more customer data next to tickets, like Daasity.
  • proactively create tickets to anticipate customer issues, like LateShipment.

Currently, the team is working on creating an App Store to improve discoverability of apps developed by our partners. In parallel, we are building a Partners Portal, to enable those partners to manage their applications in a centralized way. After that, responsibilities will be to keep improving the partners portal and the App Store and develop features to enable 3rd party developers to create new cool functionalities within our platform.

Engineering Team Culture

Getting Stuff Done, Ownership, Team Work, Excellence, and Agility.

You should join us if you want to ship stuff fast without sacrificing quality. We've put great importance on testing our code, cleaning it, treating errors first, and features later.

We also value growth and ownership. People make mistakes. We learn from them to avoid them in the future. We cannot achieve excellence if there are no bumps in the road.

What is it like working with us?

Even though we’re small and agile, we work hard and strive for success. We do it humbly and never at the expense of what’s right and ethical. We value diversity in backgrounds and thought, and believe leaving our egos at the door, supporting each other, and working towards common goals is a recipe for success.

Remote Work
Most of us work remotely around the U.S. We communicate and collaborate on Microsoft Teams. Most of our work takes place during normal U.S. business hours. The founders are in Minneapolis so there are opportunities to come co-work in the office space located there.

Sane Hours
We’re adults and we trust each other to manage our time responsibly. We look at what you accomplish, not how long you are in front of a computer. We work hard and smart. Sure, we need to drive the business hard and release features, but we’re most concerned with long-term success.

The Role

This ‘Senior Software Engineer’ role has been created to help out one of the founders and take over a lot of his development work.

You will bring the product vision to life. You’ll help develop and prioritize the product roadmap, contributing your creative vision and technical expertise to give our customers a first-class product that solves real problems.

You’ll be doing full-stack development on our ASP.NET MVC web app, RESTful API, and Xamarin mobile app. Some features span the whole platform, while some are specific to one part (for example, just the web app). You’ll be building many new features and supporting existing ones. Occasionally you’ll join customer calls to stay engaged with our customers and understand, in their words, what they need.

As the company continues growing, you’ll also have the opportunity to grow your role in scope and responsibility. That could mean helping mentor and develop a more junior developer in the future.

This is a full-time role that can be fully remote. Ideally, you are located in the United States, but we are open to other locations as well.

We are an established company with a strong product, but sometimes we operate as an early startup. Not all of our SOPs are ironed out and there’s no big employee handbook. This role is for someone who is OK with ambiguity, loves to solve problems, and can work through issues. This also presents the opportunity for lots of growth and to have an impact across many parts of the company.

Day to Day

~80% of your time will be spent coding and working on our product. The rest of the time will be working on the product roadmap, brainstorming issues, and problem-solving, and continuous deployment.

Who We’re Looking For

Ideally, we’d like to have someone who has strong experience with web app development and is also very comfortable in a startup, entrepreneurial environment.

Personality and Type of Person We’re Looking For:

  • Someone who gets a thrill and satisfaction from building real features that people need and use.
  • The desire to have creative, visionary, as well as technical influence over product direction.
  • Understanding of the importance of urgency of work and creating results, but has a big-picture, long term mindset.
  • A self-improvement spirit.
  • Someone who enjoys solving difficult problems.
  • Passion for the work
  • A data-driven attitude
  • Perseverance
  • Adaptability
  • Self-reliance
  • Comfort with risk-taking and ambiguity that comes with working for a small company.

Your Experience and Skillset:

  • Expertise with ASP.NET MVC web applications
  • Expertise with HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, other common web development technologies.
  • Expertise with full .NET framework as well as .NET Core.
  • Expertise in developing Web APIs.
  • Experience with various databases relational and document-based (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Mongo DB, MySQL, etc..).
  • Experience developing enterprise solutions with Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience utilizing Azure and Azure DevOps automation in the context of automating infrastructure deployments.
  • Experience developing applications with Azure DevOps (Repositories, Build and Deploy Pipelines).
  • Experienced in design and UX principles. Prioritizes exceptional user experience in engineering and execution.

Bonus points

  • Experience developing mobile applications with Xamarin (cross-platform: iOS, Android, UWP).

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range
$130-160k per Year

Stock Options
BlueRithm offers stock options in addition to salary and benefits. This vested interest in the company is something that would be discussed with the founders.

Insurance Coverage
For our U.S. employees, we offer health insurance.

401k Plan
Employees are eligible for a 401k plan that’s integrated into our payroll system. Plans are employee-funded.

Equipment Budget
Home office budget available to help you do your best work

Time Off / Vacation
Taking time off makes you happier, healthier, and more productive. We want you to take the time you need to rejuvenate, reflect, and take care of your and your family’s health. That’s why we have a 30 day off vacation policy. We’re not going to micromanage your day-to-day work when you’re taking off early or starting late, or just need a day to handle personal business. Results are what matter.

Parental Leave
All parents who welcome a new child by birth, surrogacy, foster, or adoption are eligible to take 8 weeks of paid leave.

Remote and Flexible Hours
This is a full-time role that can be fully remote. Ideally, you are located in the United States, but we are open to other locations as well. We don’t micromanage your time at the desk. We are focused on results. Our team is generally communicating during U.S. business hours, but you’re able to have some flexibility about when you choose to do your work.

Python React Full Stack Engineer

Our platform involves ingesting and modeling hundreds of thousands of high-resolution smart meter timeseries and surfacing analyses and insights to our users at utilities and energy suppliers. We're looking for a senior front-end/full stack software engineer to help us build our user facing applications.

Our stack uses Python (Flask), React, and Google Cloud Platform. You'll be responsible for building user-facing products on top of Python APIs and interactive React visualizations. The product work revolves around transforming smart meter and weather data into exploratory insights for enterprise customers. Visualization expertise (D3) is a big plus, and if you have an eye for product - even better.

Our engineering team is still quite small, so the right candidate can have a big impact on our tools and infrastructure. We are strong supporters of open source and we encourage our employees to publish and give talks about the work they do at Amperon.

This job is fully remote. We have optional offices in NYC and Houston.

Full Stack Software Engineer

Radical candor? More like radical gander, right?

Ok, enough goose puns for the moment, but now that we’ve got your attention, allow us to tell you more about this company called GooseChase and why might you want to join us!

You love an app that makes you smile, right? Well our product is a lot of fun. And even though our origins are that of a humble scavenger hunt app, we’ve now evolved (hatched?) into a super-flexible platform used by millions to create all sorts of experiences! It’s all the best parts of a scavenger hunt, with a delightful twist to keep you coming back for more.

With all that fun and flexibility, we’ve been growing like crazy. For teachers in the classroom, we’re the new “TV cart”, aka the learning tool that students legitimately look forward to. For today’s workplaces, virtual or otherwise, we help the team connect with each other to the point where they want to come into (or logon) to work. And for local cities and towns, we bring families together in a way that truly builds a sense of community.

But we’re also unique in that we don’t have any investors and, as a result, are able to put our people before profit. Seriously. We have a profit sharing program specifically for this reason! It also means we grow at the pace we want to and put the time into making this the best possible place to work. When we do something, it’s because it’s the best thing for our team and our customers, no matter what. We’ve actually been fully remote from the very beginning, because we wanted our people to have the flexibility to live wherever and however they wanted!

So what exactly is this job?

As a full-stack engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to architect the tools and systems that serve as the connective tissue for our infrastructure, to work seamlessly within our front-end and back-end systems, and to help enable all of our teams to move faster and provide our customers with even more exciting experiences. This includes acting as a liaison between the product team and others such as sales, customer experience, and operations.

From a day to day perspective, you’ll be a core member of our cross-functional product development team, focused on developing cross-system integrations, admin tools, automated marketing systems, testing platforms, and more. Within our product team, there are no silos or artificial barriers, meaning you’ll be working closely with other engineers and designers. Whatever will help give our customers the best experience possible!

While by no means an exhaustive list, here are some of the things a successful candidate will have experience in:

  • Modern front-end web technologies such as Webpack, Express.js, and React.js
  • Using server side rendering alongside single page applications
  • Server / scripting technologies such as Node.js and Python
  • Core web technologies - HTTP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL
  • Distributed computing systems such as RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, Redis
  • Open source instrumentation systems such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry
  • Version control - e.g. Git, Mercurial, SVN
  • DevOps technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm
  • Managing and deploying services on the public cloud - e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure
  • CI/CD technologies such as CircleCI and Jenkins

Looking at how we work, our methodologies are:

  • Continuous integration using CircleCI to empower developer autonomy and shorten development cycles
  • Agile, with two week sprint cycles
  • Daily async check-ins - stay connected to the team, but without zombie standups
  • Project management in Asana, with our “office” taking place on Slack & Zoom - we have a very strong gif game

How do you know if this might be for you?

At GooseChase you’ll be working alongside a team of highly motivated, world-class engineers with tons of opportunities for learning, growth, and mentorship. Our product team works closely together, so we are extremely selective about who we hire to ensure the calibre of our engineering talent remains high. Be prepared to bring your ‘A’ game!

We understand that relevant experience comes in all shapes and sizes and the ability to do the job is all that matters. With that in mind, we aren’t going to put together a generic list of all the requirements that we’re looking for with this job, however, there are certain things we are looking for - specifically:

  • Have you been able to collaborate & communicate successfully with others in a cross-functional team?
  • Do you have very high standards for your work and desire to work with other talented people?
  • Have you succeeded at building effective tools and software integrations in the past?
  • Do you bring a depth of expertise in security and performance best practices?
  • Are you able to take UX and design into account when developing front end applications?
  • Are you comfortable architecting APIs as well as developing corresponding documentation?
  • Are you comfortable working within multiple projects and technologies simultaneously with minimal supervision?
  • Are you based in the GMT-4 to GMT-8 time zones (North America), so you can work closely with our distributed product team?
  • Can you get down with an uncomfortable amount of goose puns?

Ok the last one isn’t super work related, but we honestly do have a lot of goose puns. It’s one of our favourite parts of our culture!

We do things differently here. We’re all about fun, but also making an impact. We care deeply about working with amazing people, and have set up our company culture specifically for that - our compensation is competitive, our work environment is autonomous and collaborative, and our emphasis is on learning and growth. Put simply, it’s the type of company we actually want to work at ourselves!

So, this is us, standing in front of you, asking you to join us.

Remote Senior Frontend Developer for Likvido (VueJS/Vuex/Webpack/Sass)

Hello there! Are you ready for a really ambitious position as a senior frontend developer?

And yes, the role is fully remote, so you can do your job wherever you want; from the beach, the pyramids, even from the moon if you like (well, of course you need to have an internet connection).

Likvido is a (very) fast-growing startup. We are around 60 employees now, and we are aiming for a series A funding to realize our huuuuge ambitions for the coming years.

We are now looking for a Senior Frontend Developer that can bring our visuals, UI/UX and frontend stack to the next level.

Let’s be polite and introduce ourselves first - so who are we and what are we doing?

Let's face it: accounting sucks. Entering data into a stupid system? Sending invoices? Trying to get the last decimals to match so your auditor doesn’t scream at you?

We would prefer spending time with family or friends. The same goes for our customers.

At Likvido we are automating accounting for our customers. We do this by having a super awesome product that helps you:

  • Send “smart invoices” that reconcile themselves
  • Send automatic reminders for invoices that go unpaid
  • Pay your bills in Likvido so you don’t have to go to your bank (and the bills of course reconcile themselves)
  • Automatically scan all your receipts and bills so you don’t have to enter data again
  • Get paid if an invoice has not been paid on time through our debt collection system

If you really hate accounting, we also have an accountant service where our accountants take care of everything for a small price.

So to summarize what Likvido is doing:

We are letting you focus on what matters, instead of spending time on boring administrative work.

Tech stack

Our main application is a web application, where our customers can interact with the product. This web application consists of a VueJS frontend and an API - using the Backend For Frontend (BFF) approach. This means we are evolving the frontend and API in a symbiosis, where the API requests are tailored to the exact use-cases of the frontend. The styling of the frontend is a custommade look built with Sass and designed by our in-house UX/UI designer in cooperation with Studio Skulptur: https://www.studioskulptur.com/likvido.

We use StoryBook to keep track of our Vue components. We are generally very open to adopting new technologies, whenever they provide some nice improvements over our current stack. One of the next steps we are considering is to upgrade from Vue 2 to Vue 3 as well as switching to TypeScript - but we need your input as well here!

You will join our current team, consisting of 9 colleagues, both frontend and full stack developers, plus a product team with UX/UI designers and product managers.

Responsibilities

Being a Senior Frontend Developer at Likvido, your job is to build awesome products. We want to “wow” our customers.

Day-to-day that means you will:

  • Implement new visual changes (HTML + CSS + JavaScript preferably in Vue.js)
  • Be responsible for the frontend technical stack in the solution in cooperation with the current team
  • Make sure we continue building and improving our “nice and reusable” UI components
  • Make code-reviews and be responsible for the JavaScript & HTML+CSS in the solution
  • Help push forward our platform and codebase, to make sure it is easy to maintain and performs well

You will participate in the development process, just like your colleagues do, which means maintaining the current codebase, adding new features, doing code reviews etc. We are moving towards forming small autonomous teams, with a very high level of ownership and influence over the product and the technologies. This environment provides a lot of freedom for the teams to take control over their work, and let their creativity unfold.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who can say “YES!” to the following:

  • I am a senior frontend developer with 5+ years of experience
  • I have multiple years of experience building a modern JavaScript stack. Also, I am familiar with build tools such as Webpack/Rollup and know how to set them up to use the latest JS features (ESNext) and new CSS specs.
  • I am up-to-date on the latest JS & CSS specs and know best practices around modern state management (like Redux, Vuex). This is important because we always strive to leverage the new technologies that make our lives easier.
  • I know how to set up a modern stack that makes use of client-side routing and offers all the things you’d expect from a modern SPA, such as offline-support, service workers, push notifications, etc.
  • Bonus: Experience writing unit tests as we want to cover the most critical areas with good tests, and we are already very far here

So without further ado: If you consider yourself a top frontend developer, and feel like having a very ambitious role is the next step in your career - APPLY!
