Front-endremote Jobs

What do we do?

Hatchways' mission is bold. We're modernizing education by helping those new to the tech industry get real, practical experience on-the-job instead of in the classroom. Our goal is to provide access to opportunities to people who otherwise would have been overlooked by the traditional interview process.

We have revolutionized the technical interview process by using a practical work simulation to assess candidates instead of relying on credentials, years of experience, or impractical CS knowledge to assess candidates.

Hatchways is a place you come to make an impact, working with like-minded people to build something meaningful using the best technology. You can read more about our team and culture here - https://hatchways.io/careers.

What we are looking for?

We are adding a Senior Full-stack Engineer to the team. As a member of the team, you will get a chance to develop complex web applications, using a mix of Javascript (React) and Python. You will be working in a highly collaborative environment. This is an exciting role for someone who enjoys the challenge and responsibility for large projects.

What does senior mean? For us, we are a company that doesn’t hire based on years of experience or credentials. In order to be senior, we are looking for an engineer that can provide technical mentorship to our team and can work on complex technical projects with little to no direction.

The ideal candidate for this position is a thoughtful problem solver who can easily adapt to changing requirements and quickly learn new technologies. They are passionate about developing modern, cutting-edge web applications, and can balance empathy to end-users with technical requirements.

What you hopefully bring:

Experience with a modern front-end framework (React, Angular, Vue, Ember, Typescript) and back-end framework (Python, Rails, Node.js)
Our stack is React, Python/Flask, GCP
Experience with non-relational or relational databases such as MongoDB, MySQL, Postgres, Redis, Cassandra
Experience working with IaaS such as GCP or AWS
Experience giving feedback on others' code through code reviews

About you:

A positive attitude, motivated, and a fast learner
You love teamwork and find it easy to collaborate closely with the engineering team to solve complex problems in efficient and scalable ways
You have a passion for solving problems across all areas of the business
Excited with the opportunity to lead a small team!

Interview process:

A 30-minute phone call with our CTO (https://www.linkedin.com/in/shumskassam/)
A project-based assessment where you will work on a few issues on a Github repository - it will be very practical and done using React + Python
A final 30-minute culture fit call with our CEO (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaclynling/)

What are the perks and benefits?

We are a flexible, diverse, and remote-friendly team. We prioritize learning and growth opportunities for our developers (not only technically, but also personally) through frequent 1:1 meetings with your managers, valuable quarterly reviews, and external training opportunities. We are an early-stage startup, so joining us early means you will have a significant stake in the company. We also have a very flexible vacation and health benefits plan.

Learn a little more about the founding team:

Hatchways is a Y Combinator-backed startup (S19) and is founded by two-time founders Jaclyn and Shums. Prior to starting Hatchways, Jaclyn and Shums started their first startup (Blynk, your personal stylist in your pocket) which got acquired by Kik (popular messenger app in Waterloo, ON). At Kik, Shums was an engineering manager and Jaclyn led product for the bots team. Together, they launched some of the first chatbots in the market with partners like H&M, Sephora, and Shopify. Shortly thereafter, they wanted to pursue a problem area they were passionate about: improving the education to employment pathways so more people have access to opportunities in tech.

Hatchways is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. If there is any part of the interview process that is not accommodating for your situation, we are more than happy to create a more comfortable process for you. Just let us know by emailing us at hello@hatchways.io.

InvergHQ is Hiring a Full Stack Developer as their second technical hire. They’ll be working directly with the CTO and the other founders. This is an opportunity to be an early hire, work in all parts of the system, and help a fast-growing business go to the next level.

Who We Are

At its core, Inverge is a platform that helps brands and wholesalers connect with their retailers and gives everyone the tools they need to sell more easily and efficiently.

Our users are able to have one tool to get their products in the hands of customers anywhere they are with minimal effort. They can dive in deep and run every aspect of their business or just use a single piece. This could be a brand connecting to thousands of retailers across the country for both drop shipping and replenishment, sharing a single uniform catalog, managing all of their warehousing and fulfillment for orders coming from any channel; be that a retailer, B2B website, marketplace, or B2C website. This could also be a small store looking to simplify its inventory management and understand its customers better.

Our existing team is composed of three founders. All are based in the areas surrounding New York City.

Since our soft launch, we’ve been able to attract well-known brands and as we gear up for a formal launch and an aggressive marketing/sales initiative, we’re expanding our team.

We are preparing to grow rapidly and are looking for the right person to join us. This will be a critical role in our technology growth and will work directly with the Co-Founder and CTO.

Having your hands in all parts of the system, you’ll have an opportunity to build a team around you and shape how we serve our users.

About the Role

This is an opportunity to face a variety of challenges and find what excites you.

If you love data, analyzing it, and building algorithms to make peoples’ lives easier, there are tons of opportunities for that.

If you love communicating with different APIs and bringing information together, the opportunities are virtually limitless.

If you love taking things apart and seeing how you can make them work better or simplify things, there is plenty of opportunity for that.

If you love solving problems we are a team that loves to find the hardest problems and work together to solve them.

Our team is curious and always looking to grow and learn.

You’ll have your hands in the entire system. This will include updating and optimizing existing features, fixing bugs, and developing new features.

You’ll also be critical in our transition to a serverless API-based architecture and will be facilitating that process. You’ll have an important role in implementing the standards and procedures needed for collaboration as we grow our development team.

The job will start full-time and from the beginning you’ll be working closely with the CTO to be trained on the usage of the in-house built PHP MVC dependency injection framework that the main application is built on. Once a fundamental understanding is reached, you’ll jump right in on projects that need to be addressed right away which will grow in complexity as their experience grows.

This hire we’re making will be the second technical member on the team and will play a critical role in the initial growth of the company. You’ll be working with the entire founding team but primarily with the CTO.

In the beginning, you’ll be working primarily with PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery. This will transition into primarily Node.js and Serverless Framework replacing the PHP. To a lesser extent at the beginning, you will also be working with React and React Native. You will be building on AWS using EC2, RDS, Elasticache, Lambda, and API Gateway. The collaboration will happen using Git (Bitbucket), Jira, and Trello.

Our day-to-day direct communication is through Slack and email. We manage projects and the roadmap using Trello and Jira. We manage the codebase using Bitbucket.

The start date is as soon as possible. We are beginning to scale and need to grow our team to continue the development of and maintain our current platform.

Projects and Day to Day Work

There is a significant amount of autonomy. There are clear goals and priorities but the actual implementation and timing are flexible. For the most part, our new hire is expected to be self-motivated and complete their work. You’ll have access to the rest of the team as needed but shouldn’t expect to be babysat as long as their work is being completed.

A majority of your time initially will be spent working on the existing PHP/MySQL application. We have many features that need to be added on an ongoing basis. There are also numerous areas that need optimization or tweaks to simplify support. This will range from developing stand-alone applications such as activity tracking across the entire application to adding an interface for changing the comparison date on a sales dashboard to debugging image ordering in existing API integration to developing an entirely new API integration for managing products, inventory, and orders. That initial work will transition to developing these features in the serverless architecture using Node.js.

We are in the process of exposing the entire application via API. A major part of this role will be assisting in this transition, slowly swapping out the PHP backend with a new implementation in Node.js. You would be expected to have good fundamentals and ability to code in PHP but primarily be experienced in and interested in Node development.

Long Term and Growth

In the long term, this person will be managing a team, setting priorities, and overseeing development.

You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of languages and frameworks. You will not be expected to know everything but show a track record of being curious and wanting to learn. There will be a lot of opportunities to find the projects that you find the most interesting, be it integrating with different APIs or optimizing AWS infrastructure, or developing Native modules. You are coming into a company with a solid foundation at a time when everything is being looked at for improvement. You will hopefully have a huge say in how things are structured and how projects are prioritized.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and ready to take initiative. We are not looking for someone who needs to be told what to do on a daily basis. We are looking for someone who loves solving problems but doesn’t always go with the first thing that comes to mind. You also consider how this solution might be able to solve the next problem too while being mindful of when spending more time on something in the short term is appropriate. You will be working in a rapidly changing environment and will not be expected to know everything but be very interested in learning new things. You’ll be expected to have worked on teams in production environments and bring their experience and best practices to aid us in this growth period.

Required Skills

  • PHP
  • Node.js
  • Typescript
  • MySQL
  • HTML/CSS/jQuery
  • Linux

Nice to Have Skills

  • TypeORM
  • Express
  • React/React Native
  • Serverless

Required Experience

  • API integrations
  • Using existing SDK as well as from the ground up
  • Decent UI/UX skills–by no means Rembrandt but able to make things logical to use and good to look at
  • Standard Git use
  • Experience deploying and maintaining production applications on AWS
  • EC2
  • RDS
  • ELB
  • S3
  • Lambda
  • API Gateway

Background in eCommerce or understanding of retail is a big plus. We are always needing to put ourselves in the shoes of our clients to figure out the best way to solve the next problem and if you don’t know what an SKU or a PO is it’ll be hard to do that.

Location: At least a partial day overlap with a standard EST workday.

If you think you’d be a good fit, we’d love to hear from you!

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is whip-smart, as demonstrated by career achievements and/or school/university results.
  • Is data-driven and analytical.
  • Is experienced at implementing product and/or marketing analytics infrastructure, and using analytics platforms to derive, report on, and action key insights.

  • Has a wide range of experience and expertise across languages, frameworks and approaches such as JavaScript, TypeScript, ReactJS, NodeJS, and scripting.

  • Can learn fast.
  • Gains deep satisfaction from helping to make products and processes better.
  • Has experience of working in a small business or startup environment.
  • Preferably has experience collaborating with diverse, geographically-dispersed teams.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Taking the lead on implementing new product flows and features to support exploratory research and in-production product improvements to help make our users more successful;
  • Identifying and integrating appropriate toolsets and platforms to assist with:
    • executing experiments within Shorthand's marketing site and storytelling platform;
    • analysing key data and automating reporting;
    • supporting customer success functions --- for example, through reporting of account health and onboarding milestones;
    • improving marketing automation flows such as user onboarding journeys and email sequences; and
    • improving data flows between disparate systems such as billing, CRM, user onboarding, customer success, analytics and other systems.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering roles.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in web application development.
  • Prior experience with analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or Amplitude. Bonus points for experience with customer data platforms such as Segment.

  • University qualification in computer science, mathematics or a closely related field, or equivalent career experience.

Personality Attributes:

Full Stack Developer

Remote Full Stack Developer for Likvido (C#/.NET 5/VueJS/Kubernetes/Azure)

Hello there! Are you ready for a really ambitious position as a full stack .NET developer?

And yes, the role is fully remote so you can do your job wherever you want; from the beach, the pyramids, even from the moon if you like (well, of course you need to have an internet connection).

Likvido is a (very) fast-growing startup. We are around 60 employees now, and we are aiming for a series A funding to realize our huuuuge ambitions for the coming years.

We are now looking for a skilled full stack .NET developer that can impact our products and become a part of our remote tech Likvido family.

Let’s be polite and introduce ourselves first - so who are we and what are we doing?

Let's face it: accounting sucks. Entering data into a stupid system? Sending invoices? Trying to get the last decimals to match so your auditor doesn’t scream at you?

We would prefer spending time with family or friends. The same goes for our customers.

At Likvido we are automating accounting for our customers. We do this by having a super awesome product that helps you:

  • Send “smart invoices” that reconcile themselves
  • Send automatic reminders for invoices that go unpaid
  • Pay your bills in Likvido so you don’t have to go to your bank (and the bills of course reconcile themselves)
  • Automatically scan all your receipts and bills so you don’t have to enter data again
  • Get paid if an invoice has not been paid on time through our debt collection system

If you really hate accounting, we also have an accountant service where our accountants take care of everything for a small price.

So to summarize what Likvido is doing:
We are letting you focus on what matters, instead of spending time on boring administrative work.

Tech stack

Our main application is a web application, where our customers can interact with the product. This web application consists of a VueJS frontend and an API - using the Backend For Frontend (BFF) approach. This means we are evolving the frontend and API in a symbiosis, where the API requests are tailored to the exact use-cases of the frontend. The styling of the frontend is a custommade look built with Sass and designed by our in-house UX/UI designer in cooperation with Studio Skulptur: https://www.studioskulptur.com/likvido. The API is running on .NET 5 and written in C#, but we also have a legacy ASP.NET MVC application running on old .NET framework - which we are in the process of getting rid of.

We run all of our services in Microsoft Azure. The most recent services are running on AKS (Azure Kubernetes Services), and the legacy services are running on App Service. Our goal is to move everything to AKS. All of our source code is hosted on Github and we use Github Actions to deploy our services to AKS. We deploy to production at least once per day.

We use SQL Server and Azure Blobs for our data storage needs. We might introduce MongoDB or CosmosDB for specific use cases, as we are generally very open to adopting new technologies, whenever they provide some nice improvements over our current stack.

Our general architecture is to build bounded contexts, with a number of services and databases inside each context. The services are small and scalable, and we use both queues, event grids and HTTP APIs for communicating between services.

You will join our current team, consisting of 9 developers, both frontend and full stack developers, plus a product team with UX/UI designers and product managers. We expect you to participate in the whole product workflow - from idea to production. You will help build new features, do code reviews, make releases, and make sure your features work and continue to work in production. You will also help us push forward our technical stack and infrastructure, to improve the performance, availability and scalability of our products.

Being a Full Stack Developer at Likvido, your job is to improve our product and build great technical solutions!

Day-to-day that means:

  • Implement new features (C# + JavaScript)
  • Help maintain our current products
  • Actively participate in team meetings, discussing product feature improvements as well as technical issues and improvements
  • Make code-reviews and be responsible for the features you build
  • Help push forward our platform and codebase, to make sure it is easy to maintain and performs well

You will also participate in the development process like your other colleagues, which means maintaining the current codebase, adding new features, doing code reviews etc. We are moving towards forming small autonomous teams, with a very high level of ownership and influence over the product and the technologies. This environment provides a lot of freedom for the teams to take control over their work, and let their creativity unfold.

We are looking for someone who can say “YES!” to the following:

  • I am a senior full stack developer with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position.
  • I put great pride in my work, and I like to solve challenging problems in ways that will make maintenance easy.
  • I enjoy following the technology trends and consider how they can be used to solve the problems we face.
  • I have strong opinions, but I understand and respect the opinions of others as well, and I will seek to resolve conflicts in a productive manner.
  • I have multiple years of experience with
    - C#
    - Modern .NET stack (.Net Core, .NET 5)
    - JavaScript (VueJS and TypeScript is a bonus)
    - Git
    - MSSQL

So without further ado: If you consider yourself a top full stack developer, and feel like having a very ambitious role is the next step in your career - APPLY!

What we offer - and a few practicalities!

💰 Competitive salary
🌴 Vacation
📖 Learning & dev budget
⏰ Flexible hours
🗺 100% Remote
🌎 International environment

Full stack Product Engineer

Theta is hiring great people to help make the next generation of software that empowers creative thinking. Join us and help empower digital workers everywhere to solve their most challenging problems.

👋 About Theta

Software has improved dramatically in recent years and the problems our companies are solving today are more complex than ever. Yet we're still using docs, a tool specifically built for long-form writing, as our core tool for creative thinking and collaboration with our team.

We think we can do better.

At Theta, we're building the missing visual thinking tool to empower you to effortlessly map out your ideas in an infinite 2d space, reference information from your other systems (code, designs, analytics), and make sense of complexity that is modern work. We believe visual thinking is the fastest, most effective way to think creatively and communicate with clarity across teams.

We have fantastic investors who have backed companies like Heroku, PagerDuty, and Circle CI.

💪 Our Team

We're builders and we care a ton about product quality, from the engineering to the small details of user experience. We're huge believers in remote + distributed teams and have worked remotely for large parts of our careers. When we became frustrated with the existing tools for creative thinking and collaboration, we decided to build Theta.

Our CEO Eric is a full-stack engineer with a big focus on user experience and has lead product engineering teams at successful developer tools companies like Keen IO (exited) and Lightstep (recently acquired by ServiceNow). Our first engineering hire, Luiza, has lead engineering teams at ThoughtWorks, Dell, & Gap, is core contributor to Etherpad (the popular real-time collaborative text editor), and has significant experience building multi-player products.

We're fully distributed and will always be a remote-first company. We're looking for people that appreciate what remote work is like and are excited to contribute to making us one of the world's best remote teams.

⭐ Our Values

Why you should work for Accruvia

Build real-world applications that make a difference.

You will have the opportunity to work on our aspiring B2B flagship product “Accruvia Cloud”. Advance your career by working on innovative features unique to the industry. As a full-stack engineer, you will gain a full sense of how the end-user experiences every feature and bug fix you commit. Experience near-instant gratification as frequent deployments deliver your handiwork to users without delay.

You will also get the chance to work on various other projects from time to time to ensure you stay stimulated.

Your income

Earning money based on hourly pay means that you earn money in the exact same way that the company does: billing for time. Paying a salary would put competing incentives between the developer and the company. Instead, we tie your incentives directly in line with the company. So long as you work within our 20-35 hours per week guidelines, your income is 100% tied to how much you work.

Do you do an amazing job meeting customer expectations with a minimal number of bugs? That’s called job security. Customers always have their favorite developers. Make a name for yourself with quality work.

Accruvia also believes that connecting income to time worked maximizes team quality. The kind of people that want to collect a salary and drag the team down are not attracted to the company. That means you will work with talented colleagues that are motivated to make you, the code and the entire team better.

Quality of Life

Your workweek totals 20-35 hours with 25 hours being the ideal amount. You can work at any time of day so long as your work hours are consistent and evenly spaced across 4-6 days per week. One of our teammates works from 11 pm – 5 am in his local time zone because that’s when he wants to work. The company cares more about you working when you’re at your peak mental state rather than the time of day when you work.

Meetings are strictly limited to when they are necessary. Because your income is based on your time worked (which includes meetings), the company is incentivized to value and protect your work time.

An Engineer’s Environment

Test-driven development comes first. We do not build features until existing code passes all tests. You are assigned tasks with the repository, at which point you are expected to own the problem and fix it. Because we operate in a “no micromanaging” environment, we need a team player that sincerely cares about the impact his/her engineering decisions will have across the project.

Version control is paramount. Commits to a project are not meant to be a fancy save button. Commits tell the team, “I have tested this feature and it’s production-ready.”

Nobody wants to get yanked out of bed to fix fires (we should not be like IT people on call!). Slow and steady keeps us looking sharp and polished to clients and keeps emergencies to a minimum. It’s better for us and it’s better for our customers’ businesses.

Small Teams

The small but quickly growing. Your work is meaningful, appreciated and because of the small team size, you have the ability to significantly influence the architecture and frameworks used within our projects.

Django 3.0 and related apps:

Django REST Framework
Celery, RabbitMQ

Docker, Git

You must have 2+ years of direct experience with Django. Django is our MVC of choice and the technology that all developers in the organization share in common.

Most Django developers also work in the frontend using Javascript and HTML5. Given the choice between an expert in Django and an expert in Javascript, we would choose Django. That said, our teammates need to come on board with a strong foundation in Javascript.

2+ years of experience using Git for version control.

Nice to haves

Webpack, Docker, expertise across multiple Javascript libraries, years of experience working with multiple types of databases (especially PostgreSQL)

Day to Day

We intentionally avoid chatter apps like Slack or Skype. Most questions do not require an immediate reply, making threads within the repository’s issue tracker our preferred method of communication. The biggest challenge for any developer is to minimize interruptions to help you spend most of your workday in the zone. Keeping chatter restricted to the issue tracking system keeps conversations organized and minimizes distractions. Genuine emergencies are handled over phone calls.

About 80%+ of your time is spent architecting or writing code. The remaining time is spent on team communication – reviewing proposed solutions from teammates, clarification on requirements, etc.

The types of projects and problems you encounter are everything related to MVC frameworks. Identify business problems, abstract them into models and serve the content through a browser.

About Accruvia

If forced to choose between technical expertise and teamwork, we choose teamwork every time. Our projects are too large for a single developer to manage on their own. Instead, the project manager distributes tasks in a way that leads to individuals owning large sections of code.

Because the team is 100% remote and the hours are flexible, everyone places a heavy emphasis on the following:

– Test-driven development. Our code is a reflection of ourselves and our work ethic. Every member of the team needs to prove to his colleagues that the committed code is production-ready.

– Incremental change. Major changes have a way of turning into major problems. Commits are best broken down into bite-sized steps to minimize the introduction of bugs.

– Proactive ownership over the codebase. If you see a problem, create a new issue to ensure that the team addresses problems before clients even know that they exist. Team members are expected to not only find problems but to feel motivated to fix them without direction.

Our current projects are for

  • A network of hormone replacement therapy clinics across the United States
  • Financial Trading Platform
  • Enterprise B2B SaaS
  • Mystery Shopper recruitment platform

Core values

Communication and Cooperation

You need to clearly understand and articulate complex problems in English. English does not need to be your first language, but an advanced level of proficiency is required. While we encourage you to work the hours that best suit you, we do expect at least 3 hours to overlap with the US business day ((GMT-05:00) Eastern Time).

Self Motivation is a highly valued trait amongst our developers. This is particularly important for remote developers who need to maintain disciplined thoughts and actions to produce consistent results of a high quality.

An independent worker who is also able to function as a team member. We like to see our developers take ownership of tasks and solve problems using industry best practices.

Help hardware engineers ship products 3X faster!

At Jiga, we are working hard to fix this problem, by building a purchasing platform that talks to engineers.

  • You are connected to the product side.
  • You are not afraid to make mistakes and get your hands dirty.
  • You have a get stuff done attitude.

  • Proven experience with React.
  • Proven experience with NodeJS, MongoDB, AWS S3.

  • Experience with Three.js or similar 3D libraries
  • Experience with Next.js

About Jiga

Jiga was started by our CEO, Assaf, who identified a need in the manufacturing market. After 6 years as a manufacturer himself, Assaf realized these inefficiencies had to be addressed.

We were founded in 2020, just before the first COVID lockdown. As we had to work remotely from day one, we learnt to communicate in an async way to allow everyone to focus and do what they do best, whenever they want and whenever they want.

We believe in flexible, remote work where each one of the team members has a voice and impact on the product. We don't count hours, we take a no-nonsense approach, and we’re open to any new ideas and technology.

All religions/genders/races are encouraged to apply, we simply don't care where you're from as long as you do a good job and play nice.

  • Fully flexible, location independent, parent-friendly remote work environment.

  • Internationally diverse and dynamic team with a clear vision and strategy.

  • Self-development budget.

  • Spotify/YouTube music subscription.

  • Generous stock options package.

Senior Independent Software Developer

A·Team is a VC-backed, stealth, application-only platform for senior software builders to team up with the best companies on their next big thing. After talking with hundreds of independent engineers, designers, and product folks, we know that consistently finding vetted, high-quality clients is hard, and projects are often too small to be rewarding. A·Team matches small teams of the most talented builders in the world with companies backed by a16z, YC, Softbank, General Catalyst, etc. on a contract basis for many of their most important initiatives. We quietly launched in May 2020, and have helped A·Teamers earn $7.3+ million since.

As part of A·Team, you can expect:

  • High-paying, meaningful missions with the most audacious companies sent your way; generally $110-$190/hr, with vetted, fascinating clients doing work that matters. A·Team is picky, and only works with companies referred to us by top funds or existing members and clients such as Lyft, McGraw Hill, the former-CEO of Waze, a few new unicorns, and dozens of venture-backed startups by a16z, YC, Softbank, GC, etc.
  • Keep 100% of what you make: we exist to empower independent builders, which is why A.Team charges a percentage on top of your standard rate.
  • Do more with a team you like: our focus is on small, diverse, cross-functional teams of insanely talented developers, PMs, designers, growth leads, etc. This is because clients with bigger budgets & more ambitious work need teams to solve problems, not individuals to do tasks. That said, we try to keep friends together, since clients love builders who have worked together before.
  • Full autonomy: we only want you to join teams when the timing's right. Often they start around 15-20hrs/week, and last at least 3-6 months (longer if it's going great, or contract-to-hire if true love is found).
  • Small, curated, off-the-record gatherings: for conversations you wouldn't have elsewhere & connecting with other top-tier builders who you may like to collaborate with.

What you’ll do:

  • Once part of A.Team, you’ll regularly be invited to impactful missions that match your interests, which you can accept or decline. Take your pick from early-stage incubations with world-class founders, to fast-growing super-funded companies, to old school non-tech incumbents looking to build as a tech giant would
  • Missions usually involve building an ambitious piece of software from 0 to 1 on a small 3-4 person team.
  • You’ll be paid to scope it out, give the client options, guide strategy, and execute on the selected solution. Sometimes the client has a clear vision, sometimes not; which is why A.Team builders tend to be senior folks who can work together to find the right direction.

Who A.Team is for:

  • Senior software developers who left large companies and high-growth startups to pursue their craft with autonomy.
  • Those who prefer consistent contract work over a full-time role, who want to create a variety of new products alongside other top-tier builders.
  • The majority of A.Teamers spend most of their time doing independent work, but a sizeable percentage are either employed full-time (but testing out client work), bootstrapping a side project, or looking for their next big thing

Who A.Team is not for:

  • People looking for small gigs
  • Folks looking to build simple wordpress/wix/squarespace-style websites
  • Those still early in their careers and recent university/bootcamp grads (at least not yet)

Our long-term vision:
This obviously isn’t a standard job post for a standard job; A·Team is a new type of company for a new kind of independent software builder. We call them "unhirables": people who traditional companies couldn’t hire full-time even if they wanted to, but who want to do their most meaningful work with their favorite people in small, autonomous, distributed expert teams.

To help us secure amazing missions, we raised $5 million+ (not public, yet) from NFX, Village Global, and Box Group, along with the former CEO of Upwork, the founders of Fiverr and Lemonade, Apple's Global Head of Recruiting, YC Partner Aaron Harris, Wharton's Adam Grant, and Duke's Dan Ariely.

Security Engineer

We're looking for Security Engineers to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will build innovative payments products that delight both engineering and finance teams. As an early member of the engineering team, you will help shape the engineering culture of a fast-growing startup.

The core platform at Modern Treasury sits between our customers and their banks. In the same way that Twilio abstracted away the complexity of working with communication networks, we have built an easy-to-use, common interface into the banking system. Our customers use our products to do things like move money to or from their users, automate back-office work, and record their transaction ledgers. The companies that can use Modern Treasury move over $750 trillion a year via bank payments, as compared to only $2 trillion per year on card payments.

Our API is often the most critical piece of infrastructure that our customers use. We place a premium on building robust, scalable systems that can sustain a high volume of API calls and exceed the reliability requirements to move money at scale. We complement this with well-thought out interfaces for our users and pride in writing quality API docs.

We believe in using the best tool for the job, rather than always using open source or building things ourselves. We actively embrace open source in parts of our system but aren't afraid to roll our own solution for things like writing and parsing bank files. We also contribute to open source (for example, https://www.moderntreasury.com/journal/continuous-accounting-building-on-an-open-source-library).

In addition to our API, we have had a web platform since day 1 that is used by accountants, controllers, and engineers. They use our platform to do things like manage payment workflows and monitor their business. As an engineer, you will work with our product team to build products and features for these users.

Modern Treasury is payment operations software for businesses with a high volume of transactions or complex payment flows. Modern Treasury automates the full cycle of money movement — from payment initiation, through approvals, to reconciliation.

Our mission is to transform the way businesses move and track money, driving toward a world where payments are real-time, reconciliation is instant, and accounting is continuous.

During your first week you will:

  • Get to know our leadership, culture, and values
  • Onboard with the engineering team
  • Ship your first commit on day 1
  • Take on 1-2 small tickets to address bugs or make minor improvements
  • Read our favorite industry primers

During your first six weeks you will:

  • Ship your first major project
  • Write your first blog post. We love writing at Modern Treasury (and have been on the front page of Hacker News multiple times with posts like "What Happens When You ACH a Dead Person?" and "How to Build an Insurance Company")
  • Shadow a few customer and partner meetings every week

During your first six months you will:

  • Work with our product team to scope and ship products for both our engineering and finance users
  • Help grow our team by mentoring new engineers, writing internal tooling and documentation, and interviewing new hires

  • Experience building web applications professionally for 2+ years
  • Experience working with SQL/Relational databases

  • Ruby on Rails for our backend framework
  • React, GraphQL, and Tailwind CSS on the front end
  • Postgres for our database
  • Redis for caching
  • AWS for infrastructure and hosting
  • Docker for containerization
  • GitHub for source code management
  • Buildkite for continuous integration
